The kind of things you find in Dubai (WARNING: Graphic content)

Last February I went down to the local auction in Dubai to check out a 450SEL 6.9 that had a collapsed suspension and very few bids. Little did I know that I would also find three pagodas, one 6.3, three W111's (one of them a convertible with a 6.3 swap), one 560SEC, and a bunch of other classic cars. Apparently, these cars belonged to a business that had gone bankrupt.

The way the classic car world operates in Dubai, I am not surprised... the market is pretty stagnant and most of these cars don't hold up well in desert temperatures.

I was going to bid $4000 on the cream coupé but did not want to pull on a credit card. Later on, most of the cars were withdrawn from auction because they did not meet reserve. Someone scooped all the Pagodas at once!

They must love red cars over there. What's was the car between the W111 Coupe and the SEC in the second picture?

A secret dry climate non rust belted area that rich people buy and then get bored and resale at an auction cars that they would rather just lease ,do I have it right?I like this concept ,American car enthusiest have an untaped new /old car market place to search for their otherwise unattainable toy.

Wonder if there's severe export/import restrictions for getting the cars out of there & over here?

Happy Motoring, Mark

I thought so, but those wheels look like they come of an Alfa Romeo.

I noticed that a lot of those Mercedes have U.S. spec side marker lights. I wonder if those cars were imported from the US?

Just saw a finback in a local yard with the two carbs on the 6,
since the chi-coms are not buying near as much scrap metal, lots of yards are backing up with old stuff

No restrictions at all other than the usual 5% import tax.

That, and the Lamborghini having a US-spec bumper. Yep, they are US imports!
