E-cig, vaping, whatever you want to call it...

I've been a smoker for over 25 years. I curse the day I picked the first cigarette up and lit it, but have been unable to kick the habit in all these years. It's more than a habit with me..I enjoy the smell of a freshly lit cancer stick, the feel when it hits my throat, and the rush the first smoke of the day gives me.

About 2 months ago, we painted the inside of the house in preparation to sell it. My wife and I both smoked inside the home. Prior to painting, we scrubbed the walls and ceilings, and what I saw was a wake up call to me. The yellow film was impressive from 4 years of smoking. The smell and color of the cleaning solution and water that we used was impressive...yellow-brown and smelled like a wet ashtray. Since painting, indoor smoking was stopped.

During my latest visit to Ohio, I met up with some friends that have been smoking as long as me. When I began to light up, one of them handed me an e-cig...and eGo-T brand setup that you fill with a liquid of your choice. It was explained that with these e-juices, as they are called, the second hand smoke issues aren't there, and that the other chemicals related to smoking illnesses are much, much lower than with smoking or chewing tobacco. One friend handed me a Krave brand pack of 5 e-cig, which equals a carton of regular cigs, and told me to give it a try (She works as a marketer for Speedway and gets them for free). I went 4 days without a real cig!!

My wife and I discussed it, and both of us decided to purchase a eGo-T starter kit for each of us, as well as some e-juice. I called around to my friends and found out that we all basically grew up with the owner of the region's largest mixer and distributor of e-juice. I made a call and set an appointment to meet with her. During our coffee meeting, she handed me a number of samples of different flavors she mixes, as well as some more nationally popular brands. I was amazed at the fact that some juices can contain nicotine, and others can be only flavor. By the end of the meeting, she had given me enough e-juice to last at least a year for the average "Vaper", as a gift.

Since 3/22/2014, I have not had a single cigarette, nor the desire to light one. I was rolling my own cigarettes for the past 5 years, and still have a pound of my tobacco, and another of my wife's, as well as 10 boxes of tubes. I'm not quite confident enough yet to trash them, but I'm gaining on it.

My wife and I are both addicted to nicotine...that much we know. We know we will always be addicts to this, and that nothing will change that. But, since changing over to this, neither of us have a desire to go back. We aren't coughing as bad as we were, and we don't smell like an ashtray.

Now, most doctors wont say this is a healthy alternative, but they will agree that you're inhaling much less bad stuff than with a regular cig. One of my friends from the aforementioned group is a doctor that highly recommends this over the regular cig. He said that the worst thing you are getting is the nicotine...but stopped short of saying that it is healthy, only stating that it is healthier than normal smoking.

Does anyone else here do this yet?? If so, what are your favorite flavors, and do you prefer with or without nicotine? I'm mixing about a 75/25mix of both, giving me less nicotine. By next month, I hope to make it 50/50, then down to 25/50 the month after that. My overall goal is to remove the nicotine completely, vaping only the flavor of a real cig without the harmful stuff.

I quit 31 years ago after smoking for about 15. Quitting is a genuine PITA. It probably took me 5 years to quit and I tried all sorts of things. The final cure was when I burnt my toddler by accident. Not recommended, but it worked for me.

I have a subordinate who smokes e-cigs. I support her smoking them at work, on the job. I have far, far greater tolerance for people like her who are trying to quit than for puritanical sanctimonious intolerant Nazis who want to prevent her from doing so.

Smoke'em if you've got'em and best wishes to you!

they seem like a cool idea, but they have brough on a new issue. lots of people now think it is ok to smoke these inside. one of the local in'n'out burgers added "including e-cigarettes" to the no smoking sign.

ive had this issue with one of the guys that works under me several times. he thought it was ok to smoke it in my work truck, and again at a school we were working on.

there, now ill step down from my soap box.

other than that, i cant tell you **** about it.

Had the same thing happening to me, a guy I was working with did light one up in my pick up truck. When I told him he was rude he was baffled by my reaction. The smoke inside was so thick I could hardly see the outside...

Thanks...I've been trying to quit for about the last 8 or 9 years. It has been impossible for me.

If this helps me quit, I'll be happy. If this becomes the new habit, at least it's healthier than the regular cig.

It isn't smoke, it's water vapor. If you'd put your horror aside for a sec you'd have noticed that it is nearly odorless and not irritating. I sat puffing on an eCig one night on the couch watching Tee Vee with the wife right next to me. She didn't notice for over 10 minutes. "Hey WTH are you doing" she says.
I quit cigs 20 years ago after about 20 years of Camel shorts, but didn't stop chewing. Copenhagen then became a food group. My dentist says my mouth is fine but it's a nasty habit and harder to break than cigs I think. I've entertained the notion of using eCigs instead and even bought a starter pack. Don't remember the brand. No foo foo flavors for me, just tobacco and strong please. Not bad really, but I haven't made the leap yet. Good for you JP. Of course, if your heart health is an issue you're probably fooling yourself. It's the Nic that nails your heart, so it doesn't matter how you get it.

I would make sure I was smoking U.S. made liquid. No telling what the Chinese are putting in theirs.

Don't worry. When I was in LA last year, I had a very strong impression that ability to see was not a requirement for driving.

Exactly...it's just mist.

The friend that mixes these guarantees all ingredients are made in the USA. She uses a 60/40 mix of VG and PG juice. One gives more vapor, the other the throat hit...meaning it not only tastes like a real cig, but feels like it in the throat as well.

I have read a number of stories where people have used the 0 nicotine flavors to quell appetite cravings as well. I have one tank with Watermelon 0 nic juice, and have become rather fond of it. My friend is working on a Honeysuckle flavored one just for me. As kids, we both grew up with honeysuckle growing in the area, and have fond memories of the wonderful yet light aroma it put in the air. She hopes to have a sample sent to me by the end of next week. If it's as good as I hope, it will be another flavor to add to the rather sizable box of flavors she gave me.

By cutting the bottles with 0 nicotine flavors, I'm cutting the total nicotine levels. That should help the heart issues...and make the doctor happy as well.

You're in my space? Don't fart. Don't smoke. Don't be a racist. Etc.

OTOH, I try to be tolerant of folks who have a problem and are trying to deal with it.

If it was your daughter trying to quit cigs with an e-cig, would you dump on her for puffing?

I don't care if it's vapor or smoke, the cabin of the truck was filled with it, could hardly see outside anymore.

I'm not one of those anti smoking nazi's, if someone smokes a cigarette or vapor device next to me outside I don't really care. I even light one up occasionally when I have a drink with a friend that smokes.

The only way to quit is breaking the habit and start a new one. In my case it was to stop drinking and to start excising like a mother ****er.

I can see the school thing being an issue for sure. I'd ask in somebody else's vehicle or house, that's just good manners. It's not smoke though, that was my point. Isn't going to give you second had anything or even make you sneeze.

Yep. I quit drinking beer and to help me along I started drinking whiskey. Like a mother****er. It works like a charm I am here to tell you.
