Natalie Portman's first movie

She was 13, plays a 12 year old in "Léon: The Professional," 1994.

I saw it on cable a few days ago, the thumbnail description in the viewer guide didn't include any names but it sounded worth a look. I tuned in about 30 minutes late, oh well, I'm watching and I'm thinking 'who is this enchanting girl and why do I think I recognize her?'

I found the DVD at the library. It's a likable flick, must suspend disbelief big time as the corrupt cops are a serious caricature. Oh well. I've always got a kick out of the other star - Jean Reno. Turns out he's of Spanish heritage, raised in Morocco, moved to France when he was 17. I always thought he was French.

One thought I had during the watching - two lines from the bible borrowed here:

Humbert, Humbert, get thee behind me! Let he who readeth understand.

I should mention, if you haven't seen the movie yet, read no further. At least until after watching it of course. There are likely to be a few small spoilers below. If anyone responds that is.

When I saw it, I kept waiting for Natalie to appear, finally realized that little girl was her. "Oh yeah, twenty years younger, ok" took a while, , ,

What, you mean the 'Lolita' aspect? I thought it was interesting. Teenage girls are almost adult women, the process has begun, and they reach out the same way people reach out, for friendship, for love.

When I was 16 I worked in a library. A young woman - about 28 - also. Her husband was in Vietnam and she was a tad lonely. With me she could have a friendship that wasn't sexual though I could feel the energy. Well, it was sexual but we didn't actually do the deed. Once on a workday before Christmas, library closed, she gave me a haircut. OMG.

Is 'gave me a haircut' a euphemism?
