Verizon cell service question

Hello. I am hoping someone can clarify this for me. I got a voice mail a few days ago asking me to do a lot of things such as providing a password, etc. I tried to erase the voicemail because I don't want the "additional security" nor another password to remember, but it would not allow me to erase and is currently telling my callers it is recording my message but if I try to get it out it will not allow me.

Is there a way around this or will I have to change servers?

Not understanding what is happening. My first thought is the voicemail is a phishing attack, trying to extract personal information from you. But now your callers can leave a voicemail, but you can't retrieve it?

It sounds like your voicemail account was reset and you are now in "new user" mode. Typically you have to enter a password (6 digit number or some such) when setting up the mailbox. If you dial in to listen to messages from the mobile phone, it is automatically authenticated and you don't need to use (or remember) the password. Only if you were to call in from (for example) your home phone would you need to use the password.

I think your best option is to call customer service and have them fix it, or at least clarify what is going on and what steps you need to take. This should not be a big deal and no reason to consider changing service if you like the big V.

Thank you my friend!

I was afraid of it. Calling them seems like a good idea.

By all means, call them. There's more than one reason I've stayed with them for 20+ years...

They have really good customer service. Give them a call and see what's going on. My wife and I have been with Verizon since they were known as Airtouch.

Yup, not 24/7 but yes they will. Just dial 611 from your cell phone.

So I called and got comfy with the change. It sounds like they switched over to a system acquired in a buyout...(?)

Now my phone seems to be sucking power so much I have to charge the battery twice or three times as often....does this seem possible?

Do you need bluetooth? (i.e., does your car have a hands-free interface that allows you to make/take calls without physically touching your cellphone? Do you often use wi-fi to access the internet on your phone?) If not, check your phone's settings to see if bluetooth is disabled, as bluetooth can drain power.

Bluetooth, hunting for wifi, location, apps that use your location, etc...all will sap your battery.

Set your phone to power save

I've gotten in the habit of changing my iPhone 5 to power save mode as soon as I pull it off the charger.
It's getting old.
I've heard that you get 500 recharges out of a battery. That's not much over a year or so.
So today, at 4 in the afternoon, I'm still at 66% battery.

Depends. Very unlikely but not outside the realm of possibility. Did they switch you from old style dial-up voicemail to visual voice mail where the messages are downloaded to the phone? What brand and model of phone do you use?
