Dodged a bullet today!

Last week, I brought my SHO in to the dealer for service. I gave them my spare key, as the primary key is a PITA to remove from my keychain. My car has pushbutton start and a proximity sensor which allows opening the car doors without fumbling for the remote, so the keyfob is essentially the key. Had my car serviced that day and all went well.

Soooo, I dress this morning for work. I put on a pair of pants that I had apparently worn the prior week, and feel a lump in one of the pockets. I reach in...and pull out the spare key/remote. Saying one very bad word, I finish dressing and run down stairs to find a small screwdriver to pry the remote open. Dry as a bone. I put it back together and go into the garage. I aim the remote at my car, press the button sequence for the remote start, and...my car starts! I tried out all the functions, and everything works. Fortunately, Ford's supplier did a good job of weather sealing the fob, as the alternative would have been to go to the dealer and part with a couple of my favorite pictures of Ben Franklin to make everything right.

Before switching to bulkier iPhones, I had an annual ritual where I would launder at least one Motorola flip phone. They came out of the wash sparkling clean... and hopelessly bricked.

Maybe the good old days weren't so bad: I've never accidentally laundered the hardwired kitchen phone, and washing the primitive all-steel keys to my 1976 Firebird would have just made them look better...
