I'm an idiot
Ok. I'm reluctant to admit this but here goes.
2006 S430. Only key is locked in trunk. Trunk closed its self over nite. The battery is disconnected. That's why the trunk was open. It's closed on 1st catch Thanks to battery charger cord, not all the way and sealed. Any ideas ? To be more specific I guess I'm looking foe an alternate way of energizing the system so I can open the trunk electrically. Last edited by Sophie; 10-16-2016 at 02:42 PM. Reason: Specificity |

Can you access the trunk by removing the back seat on that model? Alternately can you plug in one of those battery chargers designed to work thru the cigarette lighter/12 volt outlet or will that not work since the battery is disconnected?

Thanks for the response I have been trying to use a thru the cig lighter rig but so far all has failed. Guess I will try to get a locksmith. Of course I'm in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks for the response. Anyone know a hook up point in the engine compartment that could be used? |

Vin number w/proof of ownership and $$ at a dealership may be cheaper than a locksmith. Then you will also have a second/ spare key in case of emergency or similar error.

Yes, thank you. You may be right. The key fob won't help with the battery unconnected but a second physical key would...

I would suggest that you phone first to be sure that is your nearest dealerships policy and cost. Then depending on distance and how quickly you need access.

Under normal circumstances this will work if your battery is dead and you can't open the trunk......
Pull up the carpet on the passenger side of the car. In the front. Remove the piece of foam you will see there. Remove the three nuts holding the metal plate in place. I think these are 10mm. Remove the steel plate. Connect your positive side of the jumper cable to the big lug on top of the junction box. You will see where it goes. Connect your negative side to anything that looks like a good ground. You might have to search for an unpainted surface or find a place where a metal bolt can be put into a hole. Let it charge for a few minutes. But in your case a dead batter is not the problem. Your problem is that the negative pole is disconnected. Since the entire electrical system pulls from the negative side of the battery (yes, this is how it really works) then your electrical system is no longer connected to the rest of the car. I think your only solution is to get another key from the dealer. Or the dealer may have a service truck they can send out with a master key. A dramatic solution would be to break out a tail light and then reach in and grab your keys. I know someone who did this and then picked up a replacement tail light assembly at a wrecking yard. I don't know what this would cost but to this fellow his anger at his situation overrode his ability to think the situation through. |

An idiot is a person like the one I describe here: a person who burns savings bonds to ensure that her spouse doesn't get them. Since he had a list of numbers, he requested a copy, paid the fee (10 bucks) and had them sent c/o his sister, He then waited until after the divorce and cashed in all $11,000 of them. What amazes me is why the person who burned them didn't just cash them herself, they were all joint bonds.

I have to stop everything and say thanks to all, especially Idle for the help! In much the same way a broken clock is correct twice a day I lucked out. Since I had disconnected the positive terminal not the negative I decided to give it a try and it worked great! Great to know this trick. You are amazing!

Pop the hood and hook a positive to the positive post and the ground to the body. Should energize the system. Typically the positive post is on the drivers side near the fender.
