In 198K miles it's only needed regular oil changes and one power window motor.
Timing CHAIN
Superb on ice and snow
Con: road noise
less than stellar mpg
I can't think of anything else
I picked up an '07 Element SC and it is my favorite car to date. It's so flipping useful. I do wish I had not gotten the SC model and had gone with one in pumpkin orange or lime green with AWD.

How are they for Interstate driving? 4 cylinders and barn-door aerodynamics don't sound like fun in such a venue.

I haven't had any issues. I picked up an '07 specifically because Honda switched to a 5 speed auto at that point over the 4 speed slushbox. The Element can be had with a manual in all trim levels if you look for one.

fuel mpg on the highway is mid 20's.

But seriously, it has been the most useful vehicle short of owning a pickup truck. I can fit my star wars bins in the back with the seats in it or should I need to carry more stuff the seats lay flat and flip up to the sides or I take them out. I usually drive with the seats laying flat. I'm wanting to make a sleeping platform for it so I can take it out on weekend camping excursions or even make a teardrop trailer for it.

I think new cars look newer for longer - for the last 20 odd years or so there hasn't been a big shift in the way all cars look

Downsides: Power steering system leaks a bit, and Pentosin CHF11S hydraulic fluid is not cheap. It's starting to show the effects of 20 years in the rust belt. And I wish it was a 6-speed manual.
you can rid of the pentosin and use GM cold weather PS fluid. Many BMWs are now running on regular PSF in warmer areas.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I know that some E34s even use ATF instead of Pentosin, I'm not sure why one is specified over the other -- SLS would be a good justification, but my car doesn't have it. It's one of those sweet mysteries of life.

usually the pentosin was used for pumpability in frozen areas. where regular ATF or PSF would be a block of ice.

Unless your car was using the same CHF11s oil and pump for the suspension, I wouldnt worry too much about changing it over. I have found that dexron VI is a champ in power steering systems as it has pretty good antifoam

Can't help with the options, but you can change the color yourself. PlastiDip, AutoFlex or Raail Airwrap. My friend has changed his Model S about 6 times himself. This is his latest Airwrap.
AirWrap – Product Categories – Raail Protective Coatings

Our 1991 300D (3.0) Turbo, Japanese spec. W124 - which I've extensively modified with E500 parts. It's up to 278,000km now. I'll be slowly uploading the story and pics of this car to the Projects page in the near future.

Likes: Zero corrosion from new, dependable mechanicals & no-nonsense design & build quality, good engine with plenty of performance, E500 level handling and braking, E500 interior, incl. custom AMG spec 3-person heated rear seats), one piece suede roof lining, 2100W Bluetooth & hands Free fully concealed custom sound system, E500 front end (& soon, replica E500 rear arches instead of the current AMG ones), Evo II original E500 Limited wheels.

Dislikes Polar White, so it gets dirty easily - especially living in the Japanese countryside, rarity & cost of E500 used parts, difficulty of finding an LSD and manual gearbox.

This car is used every day for everything from the school run, to long distance weekend trips and has been completely dependable over the last 4 years of ownership. We intend to continue using it as our family car for the next 20-30 years. I'll even have a spare car in case parts become difficult to find, but it should last the distance easily enough.
