mercedes W201 differential

hey guys,
i've got W201 with 2.0 AT engine, the car reaches 160 Km and dont want to go more than that. nothing wrong with the gearbox and engine it self.
most people told me that its differential problem.
so is there different kinds of differentials and is there a low speed one and higher speed differential like BMW or not

thanks alot and waiting for you feedback people coz its really annoy me so much

There are several differentials with different gearing.

For your vehicle I believe the gearing is 3.64 for the 2.0 with the automatic transmission.

Crawl under the back end and scrape off the muck on the left hand lower corner of the casing that sticks out from the side of the cover to see the final drive gearing.

I think the 3.64 is used on the 5 speed and the automatic transmission and the 3.46 (what I have) is for the 4 speed.

But I might be wrong about that. (Though I'm not wrong about what I have got - that I know!)

Anyway if you've just changed the differential to one with a different gearing then your speedometer won't be reading the correct speed. Speedometer and differential are matched.

Check real speed on the flat with GPS.

(And crawl underneath and check the final drive ratio)

Here's the thread where I asked the same question a few years back

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/263096-differential-identification.html

W201 is in the same place as the W123
