...saw many 'Expedition" vehicles like that on the way to Africa from northern Europe during my semi driving days in Europe....usually full of students.
Out of the UK they tended to be ex army Bedford 4x4 5 tonners and the occasional forward control Land-Rovers. .

No Japanese trucks that I recognized. Mine is probably closest in size to the Steyr's.
We met one of the older round nosed Mercedes 911's in Chaco Canyon a few years ago. I heard it whining and groaning its way on the road into the park and knew I was about to see something interesting. They had shipped from Germany to Halifax NS. Driven all the way across NA with a top speed of around 48 mph. That's a drawback to lots of those European trucks. Ours an do about 68mph or so but that extra 20mph makes a big difference.

Most of those were Man Kat's apart from a Tatra. Exchanged a lot of messages some years ago with a German guy who has one. Very poor fuel economy as I recall. 4 or 5 mpg I think. The US military used some of those Man Kats I think, I saw some in a convoy in Upstate NY once.

Good stuff! Yeah, in NA 68 mph beats 48 for sure!

Kerry, here is a photo of the camper I am currently building...a little different than most.
It's been a really good project for my 17 year-old son and I. It's been in-the-works for about 5 years, and hasn't (yet) turned a wheel on the highways / byways. I'm thinking it's going to take about another 18 months to finally get it roadworthy. Just to give you an idea of how truly ugly it is...my son has named it "FrankenCamper"...

That's nice. There are a couple of homemade Isuzu campers over on ExpeditionPortal in the Japanese Truck forum. Lots of trucks like yours in Australia.

Here's a guy with an interesting Isuzu camper who was having some mechanical difficulties.
Help! Isuzu broken down (again) - Expedition Portal)
