Style of trailer axles
I bought the 27' haulmark enclosed trailer and have used it two years. Probably more used than any other trailer I have owned. Pretty much trouble free. The only real draw back is it is so big. So I went back to the dealer yesterday to see about a few things...painting it, installing a travel trailer latch on the door and installing an AC unit.
So he started scratching out the prices of things and finally said maybe I should trade it in on a new one. Hmmmm....new one, smaller, with all the stuff I want....maybe a trade for two or three thousand. He had my attention. So I asked for a quote on a new trailer, my way. What comments do you all have regarding leaf springs vs torsion axles?

I would want to know the rate of failure over the normal springs before deciding. Just me though from my long ago Chrysler product ownership.
Although they were easy to change. Seemed just to randomly fail overnight with the cars just sitting. As for any difference in their respective operation on a trailer I do not have a clue. I do believe they improved the cars general handling over the competition of the time. Might have been how they progressively load up differently than springs. |

I've had numerous trailers with torsion axles and with springs. Darned if I can tell any difference in use. When the trailer is empty it bounces, when full it rides nice and smooth.
The solid axles and springs look stronger though.

I have had both. Springs do have higher yields and durability but are clunkier. There are no super heavy vehicles with TB. For good reason

On my utility trailer the two axles have leaf springs but they are mounted on a pivot in the middle. The enclosed trailer I believe has no pivot between so I think it'll be rougher.
