Woke up to some great snow...

Woke up this morning and looked out to see that we finally had a decent snowfall for the season....5.5", on average, measured in a few spots in the yard and vehicles. Going to have about another 1" before it's all over and gone.

Weatherman said we're supposed to be in the mid 50's with rain over the weekend. That means some basement water to deal with...normal with the limestone foundation I have. I think I have all the dams in place to direct the known leak spots to the floor drains. I learned to do that after the first year in the house.

If you got hit, how much met you this morning?

The leading edge of perhaps the same storm is reaching us in Nova Scotia as I type. I think it is indeed the same storm. It is expected to dump 4 to 6 inches overnight. Enough for the plow guy to show up if they are right. This will make the fourth time this winter although I think on two occasions his appearance was questionable.

It really has snowed very little so far this winter here. Although the winter is not over. Also the really low tempertures we see for only a day or two did not occur and it is now pretty late for them.

Just generally a moderate winter on average so far. Usually they get far more snow just south of us down the eastern seaboard of the states. Not this year though and few are complaining.

We drove by the ski slopes several times this year and usage has been sporatic even with their snow making machines.

I’ve got close to 4’ of mostly compacted snow with a roughly 9” base of pure ice on my roof, and everywhere else.

Looks like about a foot fell yesterday and last night here. Perhaps even more. With the resulting drifting with the high winds.

The large four wheel drive tractor took awhile to clear us out this morning. Almost no visability at all yesterday for long periods. Roads and all businesses closed down.

No complaints though as historically it used to be massive snowstorms in this area of eastern Canada that just do not occur anymore. When we first moved here the equipment for plowing snow was much heavier than exists today.

Big autocar diesel trucks with wedge plows where typical. They were just being phased out for average dump trucks with blades.
