I think the shift from hunter-gatherer to pastoral-farming is symbolically described in the Bible in the relationship between Cain and Able. Able represents the hunter-gathers while Cain, the pastoralist and farmer.
The pastoralist-farmers supplant the hunter-gatherers. This was repeated frequently in history. In fact it is part of the history, mythology and legends of the USA, in which European pastoralists-farmers supplanted all native american hunter gatherers and essentially absorbed native american pastoralists and farmers. Think Zuni, Navaho, Salish, and Kootenai who were mostly sedentary pastoralists and farmers as compared to Sioux, Kiowa, an Apache. Yeah, there were exceptions like Andrew Jackson's attempted genocide of the Choctaw Cherokee. Even so it generally fits the pattern. Later the Bible records the transition from power shift pastoralist-farmer to urbanites by David's bringing the Holy of Holies into Jerusalem. I wouldn't dream of suggesting the Bible as a source for scientific understanding. But it is useful as a symbolic representation of many societal transitions. |

I don't think anyone disputes the frequency and commonality of the transition. The data from Gobekli Tepe suggests the process and reasons for the transition were different from what people previously thought.

I didn't watch the video yet but I have thoughts on this subject.
There is a counter-intuitive point I want to make and it is difficult on a forum like this. Technology advanced but social order declined to make the shift. It involved shared water sources. A social order like a tribe existed to share a natural water source and when technology allowed water to be distributed and people didn't have to meet face to face at the water source on a daily basis the social order declined because people lacking the social skills could survive. Natural water sources are rare in most parts of the world and people settled their differences with stones and clubs. If you didn't treat the other people right at the water source you got axed to leave. |

Don't you mean when the hunt became the search in your online bank account for the first-of-the-month transaction?

We did not stop yet. There is still remote places where people still live like that.

There would be peace in it I imagine....depending on how much competition for the resources.

yes beautiful in the amazon, tribes no longer fight now. I don't think we were made to measure our lives in terms of material wealth, the way the world does. All senators, and leaders millionares, even church deacons have bucks. Man should be judged and promoted on what he does for others.

Well that is a fine ideal. Unfortunately it is un-American.
