Where to buy generic foam air filter material?
So I just purchased yet another old Stihl trimmer in need of resurrecting and i've run into a small stumbling block. (Skip to the bottom for the simple question)
History: It's an FS90AVE which was used only a few times by the original owner who didn't winterize it properly one year and couldn't get in started again in the spring. It has been sitting in his garage ever since (20 or more years!) It came with a nice collection of accessories so I will still be ahead on price whether I get it running or not. What instantly caught my eye was how similar it is to my other old trimmer (An FS96) and how many of the parts of compatible. (The orange one is the FS90AVE and the white one is the FS96) I spent a few hours today cleaning out literal green slime from the fuel lines, tank and other areas. Thankfully the carb looks like it doesn't have any of said gunk in it which i'm grateful for because it is a funky needle type carb that i'm completely unfamiliar with and apparently only came on the very earliest machines (I.E parts or rebuild kits are a *%^& to find) One of those hard parts to find is the air filter. The one I pulled out of the unit is clean but it's very brittle and falling apart. I'm certain that if I start it up it will just suck parts of the air filter right into the carb and I would not trust a NOS part for the same reason. The good news is that it's just a circular piece of foam, nothing fancy. My question is this; does anyone know of a good source for generic air filter material that I can just cut to the size that I need?
