The M110 powered W123 (280E) is powerful in the original (Euro) form. If it was in good condition, I'd get it. The price seems reasonable.

The engine is supposed to be very strong if maintained correctly

I have an 81 280TE and have had no problems finding parts in FL. The 6 cyl engine has been very dependable for me.

Question Looking at Euro 280E

Good Morning Folks. Today I'm going to look at a 280E, 1984 (123 ? or is there a 124 for this year?) It was brought in from Europe by people who were in the business of converting Euro cars to U.S. emission standards. They brought this one in for themselves and have been the only owners of the car. They're asking $3 K. I have been searching for info regarding these cars and have gained some knowledge from people here in this forum. I cannot seem to ascertain a "value" for the car since NADA and Bluebook don't list the car. I am also concerned about finding the correct parts for the car since it's a "gray market". Other than the usual "checks" when I look at and drive the car, should I look for anything in particular. The search showed that these cars sometimes have low compression and even tend to blow headgaskets... any other knowledge will be appreciated.

But not for me

...just letting y'all know that the 280E I looked at is not to be owned by me. I am the type that goes a lot by "vibes" and as I approached the car, I could tell I wasn't enthused. Someone else may make her a good owner, but not me.

The exterior paint (Silver) was worse than I expected.. I liked the cloth seats, probably becuse they are different to me.. AC blew only hot air.. and she drove rough (I only drove her around the block, but didn't care for the "feeling") So... very glad I looked at it.. but someone else will have to bring her back into shape. thanks to this forum, I'll know more about the Euro models if I encounter another one.. then maybe that will be mine.

Thanks

I generally go by "vibes", instinct, or whatever the hell else it's called, too.

When looking at used cars, I have a 6th sense, and know right away whether or not it's a car I could buy.

I get the feeling when I walk up to the car, sit in it, and drive it for a few minutes. It's an immediate feeling.

If it passes the "vibe" test, then I take it to a mechanic and get it looked over.
