Benzmac Meeting Engatwork, Ancient History
I was going through a few old MercedesShop printouts looking for some info for a question posted today regarding w124 trouble code testing. It was from June of 2000. In the thread, Donnie (Benzmac) one of the MShop cofounders was asking Engatwork where in Georgia he lived.
Those were the glory days of MercedesShop. Things are a little different around here now. Different owner, different name and different attitude. MercedesShop was a wonderful community in its first few years. Engatwork is one of the remaining posters that is a top notch guy and a great example of what the community was like in those days. |
So was it that year when things went downhill?
|
No, 2000 was the infancy. I think the forum was stable for the first 6 to 8 years. I think it really took a turn along about 2008 or so. I don't remember for sure. It might have been earlier than that.

The oil battles. I'm glad those ended.
|
Well, we could always start one up.:eek:Just kidding.
|
I just looked. I joined April 13, 2005. there was some crazy dudes around then. I never went to OD for about five years, happy to just wallow in the diesel world. I remember one day I went to OD by accident and I felt like I had been slipped a mickey.;)
Back then I wanted to answer every thread in the Diesel section. |
I first dropped by here in 2001, when I was considering buying a w126 sedan.
|
I first joined in Jan 2001 looking to find out if I could drop a W123 center section without removing the jackshafts. Within an hour Donnie (Benzmac, a cofounder of MercedesShop) responded with exactly the info I needed and it was spot on. Donnie was an incredible MB resource at the time.
Sometime about 2008 or so I made the TERRIBLE mistake of clicking on the "Open Discussion" button. If I had never done that I would have been much better off. |

Yeah....back in the day, Open Discussion ruined a lot. Rarely come to this section since. I think morbid curiosity brought me here today; kind of like when you slow down at an accident site, to see if you see a dead body, or some blood and guts.
Wasn't it DaimlerChrysler that ruined it for mercedesshop ? |
Yes
They ( The Wizards of Stuttgart) threatened to sue even former Mercedes owners [Post Internment] over the corporate name.
(Is there anything even in the German Constitution about how to go about presenting deceased owners for civil prosecution?) |
2000 was when I bought my first MB, a 95 E320. After that the diesel bug bit.
|
Am glad that Daimler Chrysler doesn't exist anymore. That abomination shouldn't have existed in the first place.
|
who do I need to ban again?
