Winter olympics
Last night the Mrs. and I watched figure skating. It would not have been my first choice but I enjoyed it along with her.
An american couple was in first place for a good while. They skated beautifully. Their back story includes her being so sick a year or two back that she lost weigh and weighed 80# but when healed came back to compete in the Olympics. I was teary eyed during their performance thinking of the commitment it took to come back. The amount of practice it takes to work together so closely must be staggering. We have watched some skiing too. That is amazing. The giant slalom resembles the autocross courses I run in the cars. |
Just watched the openings ceremonies. Very cool. They did a thing near the end with drones. I think they call it swarming but not sure. Never saw it in action. Very impressive in my opinion.

That is very cool!
Thanks David! |
Tonight we watched some downhill skiing. Perhaps it was the Giant Slalom, I'm not sure but there was a point in the run where they were getting strong gusts of wind while they were airborn. A couple nearly fell, it was impressively scary when the skier was twirling his arms vigorously while airborn to keep his balance so he could land without falling.
It looked very dangerous! |
Last night and this morning we watched short and long track skating. Very impressive how close they can skate without crashing, though the Hungarian fell last night trying to stick an impossible inside pass and took out two Korean skaters. He was DQ and they kept the places they had before he dumped them.
Great stuff! |
Have not watched much, (some of 'womens halfpipe') Almost all the time, when I check/pass through, nbc is running ads, , , ,

I avoid the judged events. I thoroughly enjoy the events with a clear winner like ski jumping, speed skating and downhill. The judged events are way too subject to politics and who knows what other “variables.”

what gets me is the new seasons just started on all networks.the week before the oly's started they had new shows.but during the oly's they showed old reruns from last fall.was this network collusion to boost nbc's ratings during the oly's???
