Talking 91 300E Ok price?

Ok, after almost 6 mths since I started entertaining the purchase of an MB and narrowing it down to W124 / M103..... I came accross a potential purchase yesterday froma freind's neighbor; 1991 300E, 70K miles, one owner, garage kept, supposedly has all the maintainance records.... original paint-black

The question, I am unsure of, since I had originally been focusing on 92-93 due to the second gear start crap, is price. He wants $8K. Sounds attractive, but I think that is the going price and no real big deal on the price. Can someone let me know how the price looks. I haven't looked at the car yet.

I am getting a prepurchase inspection done

thanks

Thumbs up

Listen, the deal here is the 70k miles.

1 -- Does the car have full records?
2 -- Get yourself a pre-purchase inspection
3 -- If you satisfy 1 & 2 buy that baby.

The price doesn't bother me, either.

Condition is everything. It is always much cheaper in the long run to pay full retail price for a properly maintained, good condition car, than to get a bargain on a basket case that needs to be brought back to life. It is easy to spend thousands on an abused Mercedes and not even know where the money went.

Don't take their word for it that it's been properly maintained. You must have maintenance receipts. If it's been serviced at the dealer, have them run a service history on it from the computer.

If you have real proof of regular maintenance, then take it to an indpendent mechanic that specializes in Mercedes and get a pre-purchase inspection. Don't be afraid if he finds something wrong. An 11 year old car will surely need some reconditioning.

Just know up front as best as possible what you're getting into.

Good luck.
