Exclamation BenzSport.Com

I think everyone should go check out the Benz Sport Forum, at http://www.benzsport.com I just thought I would plug it because it has so much potential if there were only more members. At least check it out!

The people on that forum use too much slang, not that I haven't used any but, I cannot understand all of it and it comes across as ignorant.

I also think a lot of people on that forum talk about styling this and styling that.... there is more to a car than styling!!!

Am I wrong here?

I'm not going to put down a site for having slang or not having diesel, especially a site that has so much respect for this site. You'd be surprised what some of those kids know.

Benzsport and Mercedesshop cater to two different groups of Mercedes people...and i'll leave it at that.

If you're lucky like me, born into generation X, then you can happily jump between the two. If you're not able to do that then stick to what you prefer and let it be.

Hey now don't forget about generation y. I posted there on the photo section but never more than that. It seems like there is a touch more rice on that fourm too. It's a lot like DTM Power for BMWs more preformance than repair etc. I'm happy with MercedesShop

I use both sites, but I use this site more.

benzsport is a good site. IT was started by a few members of mercedesshop.

I've been there as well from time to time, and it looks like a great forum, but most of the topics are not of real interest to me...I'm more into the older cars, and repairs and maintenance of the existing components, while a lot of the discussion there seems geared towards newer models, and modification, hi-performance, styling/body kits/lowering/wheels, etc....

PLEASE know that I'm not trying to start a debate between original-vs.-custom, or about "riced-out" cars, or any of that, but I'm just not into it.

I'm a member in both. I was actually looking for a thread on W123 styling (limited to wheels actually, or maybe other subtle mods...), however never found one.

I always read the MB discussion forum. However, I do spend most of my reading here just because right now I only own a diesel.

I like both. There are some really nicely modified cars in there.
I know a lot of people think MB's should stay stock. However, I think there is a limit to stock. I mean, I couldn't stand the stock Becker Radio. Even though, I ended up buying a rebuilt Hirschmann Antenna... just because it's chrome and matches up really well.

I seriously hope this thread doesn't start into a 'war'. It ain't cool. There was a thread like this over there and I read it. There were some pretty 'wrong' comments too. However, they were to be expected.

I spend most of my time on benzsport and like it there. I used to spend all of my time one mercedesshop, but ever since we started benzsport, I have no sparetime left to visit any other forum on a regular base.
In my personal opinion both mercedesshop and benzsport are forums without members calling names and putting down other members like on some of the other MB related forums on the web.

Mercedesshop is a site for the purists and people looking for technical solutions whereas benzsport is a site for benz enthusiasts who are into modifying whatever they want...

I know a benz shouldn't be modified too much and should stay stock in order to prevent it from becoming rice, but some mods and changes don't harm the car at all.

There are no classics on benzsport and only a few diesels (of which my C250D with 477.000km is one) and as far as my own cars are concerned...there isn't much left I haven't already changed/modified...

The "slang" in the posts is probably caused by the fact that the average age of the benzport members is lower as the average age of mercedesshop members...

greetingz,

Most of the comments/opinions have already been discussed.

I too, am a member of both...but never posted in benzsport either.

They are definitely into performance...I like that.

But I'm probably off the median demographics of that group (age-wise), and I'm just happy if I can twist an OEM bolt without damage! So performance enhancement is out of my league.

Ok, I am getting white-faced gauges installed on the W124 next month...and I did put Hella fogs on the ML...do those count as performance enhancements?

I'm a member of both and enjoy both sites very much. Mercedesshop is more tech oriented and the favorite cars here are older ones and Diesels. Benzsport is more for tuning a MB which MBenz already stated. I don't think that site is rice because pretty much everyone has tasteful modifications. I think it's important to encourage the growth of the MB tuning community. There are more and more companies that are offering products for MB's and there is more of a market for them now. I think it's great.

I am a member of both and have posted on both, but I still lean towards mercedesshop. Maybe because I was here first, or maybe it seems like there is a little more knowledge of mercedes here. Either way I still like benzsport, it seems like they have alot of fun over there.

What you have is two totally different forums providing two completely different kinds of information. While Mercedes shop is very good for technical info, benzsport is very good for mods. As for the slang, thats limited to a couple of people, I don't claim to understand it so I just don't pay any attention to it. As for rice, there really is none of that on benzsport, most MB owners on benzsport are against it.

I make it a rule to check both forums several times a day

I agree. Benzsport is NOT the place for older MB's, but it does share some of the maintenance help which I have found here on Mercedesshop. I can say if you have a W202 Benzsport has much more ideas.
