My favorite, no surprise, is the E30. Had two of the 325i variant, both '87. Still have one but it needs a CAT welded in.

IIRC, they both had twin Zenith carbs, just like my W114 Mercedes 250. I worked at a small BMW shop for a couple years and saved a twin Weber carb replacement set for those. Happy Motoring, Mark

One day I decided to open up the Bavaria a bit. I took it up to 115 on a two lane country road. After cruising along at that speed for a short while I decided to adjust the radio. After doing so I decided that was pretty impressive that it felt so comfortable at that speed I felt safe to take one hand off the wheel.

I like the 90's to early 2000 vintage 5 and 7 series, and the 80's 6 series.
Before I bought my boat I looked at a bunch of the new ones because my business partner is a fan. Drove the 4, 6, 5, and 7. None of them got me excited enough to pay for them. You can lease 7's pretty cheap now because everyone wants suv's, 800ish a month. The new 550I with the M package is a nice car, but its a $900 a month lease. One of my contractor buddies ended up with an 18 with blue calipers, its a nice car but IDK its not worth $900 a month to me. My kitchen guy has an I8 which is a very cool car, they are depreciating fast he bought it when they were hot I think they are under $100k now.

Brings
More Women I'm thinking half seriously about finding a 635CSI, late 80s, with a M30B35. The M series engine, the S38, in North America, has appeal but apparently only 1767 of those were imported. Could be way spendy. The reglar 635CSI is not nose bleed money expensive, and that motor is solid.

I wouldn't own a new one without a good warranty. Which is why their is a 2012 5 series sitting at the local old used car lot for $15k, ballin on a budget!
That car was $70k new. Mid 2000's 7 series seem to be the ghetto rides of choice, they can be purchased for a song.

I drove a 5 series, '14 IIRC. Didn't like it that much. They don't make the E30 anymore.

Drive a 1 or 2 series, it's about as close of a spiritual successor as it gets

Back in 2005, a friend of mine leased a w220 S500 with a month remaining on his E66 7-Series lease, and generously flipped me the BMW keys for that final month. Definitely a bit more Thunderbird than the preceding E38 and E32 generations, but really a sweet car to drive on a quiet interstate. Naturally, as this was a BMW, the check engine light made an unwelcome appearance while the car was in my possession, bad coil IIRC...
