What is your favorite BMW?

In honor of the influx of badly-needed new blood to this forum, I thought that I would start a BMW-themed thread. As the title states, what is your favorite BMW, and why?

For me, it has to be the e32 735i, which I consider to be a graceful confluence of old-school BMW big-6 sweetness and refinement, coupled with timeless styling and a reasonable level of amenities. I recall driving a brand-new example 100 MPH one evening on a deserted U.S. interstate and marveling at how button-downed, composed and confidence-inspiring this car felt in that environment.

My appologies that I do not know the "e" designations but for sport cars it's a tie between the M1 and the 1st gen M3. There is something about the rawness and back to basics of the M3 that draws me in. For sedans, my dad had a '89 750il. Geez that car was nice. Pulled like a frieght train and it just felt as if you could drive all day long. I do miss that car.

Favorite has to be the 850csi. I still drool at the sight of the old 8 series. I had a N55 135i M sport with the DCT trans. Man that car was a ton of fun to drive, I would usually beat e90 m3s in autocross when I went out, and the thing just ripped. I have an on ramp that is about a half mile straight before getting to the highway and I could get the 135 close to 150mph on it. The saturn would top around 130, though supposedly objectively as fast.

Unfortunately it spent 2 out of the 10 months I owned it in the shop, all electronics issues. Dimming rear mirror went, Idrive and the whole center console crapped out (that was a month or so of it), which required replacement of all center display units and control modules, the dct module, and reflash of just about all the others. It also died while driving randomly on me one day which required a battery replacement (wtf?) and things like the lumbar support kept deflating, etc. Warranty covered the repairs, but I dumped it and lost a ton of money. No prior repairs/accidents and PPI was clean, who knows. I loved to drive it but jeez was it stupidly expensive to own.

The 840 is my favorite, the 850CSI I would not dare to own. Second would be a 3.0 and last a 2001 740i, short wheel base. The 740i I think is the most beautiful luxury sedan from the nineties.

My favorite was my old E30 318i 16v until I realized w201 was far more comfortable and easier to maintain. Currently helping a friend put an E32 750il twin turbo back on the road. It's a bit of a money pit.

If I had to own one, I'd take the 840 too. I'd probably swap either of them anyways lol. An 8 series with a v10 from e60 m5 swap is my money no object cruiser.

I briefly had the use of a 750i, which I believe trumps your 740i. I was on my way to buying a new 850i when they first came out, but stopped at the Toyota dealer and was smitten with a Mark III Supra targa. Saved half the cost, and it was every bit as good. Still the best looking car on wheels to me.

It's not my favourite, but I always had a soft spot for the Z1. I've seen only one in the US, in La Jolla, CA, more common in Europe. They were crazy expensive for such a small and underpowered car back in the nineties. And off course the M1, just because of the weird story how it came to be one of the most iconic supercars of the seventies.
