ALERT - Scammers PLEASE read - Important One

Not often do you see Packard or other niche market car scammers out there, but here's one. I played along for a while. Just a heads up, and same goes for any Mercedes which follows this pattern. I saw something which almost mirrored this one for 6.3 Mercedes, selling out of the Charleston, S.C. port

It is so small that I cannot read it. Will not enlarge. Not sure what to do.

greazzer 11-14-2018 10:06 AM

Crap ... let me try something else.

Hi, how are you?
> I sincerely apologize for taking so long to respond but I work 16hr shifts and I didn't saw it until now. Thank you for your patience all this while.
> You inquired about my car and I hope you are still interested. This beauty is in great condition and extremely clean. It has been recently serviced and it's being sold as described, no mechanical or electrical issues, never abused, non smoker, runs and drives perfect. You can buy it for the price of $12,800. I work overseas for Perenco on an oil rig and my contract ends in March. Then I have another 2 years agreement starting from April 2019 so the car is no more useful to me.
> The location of the car is Seattle, WA, ready to go. I have arranged for the sale of the vehicle before leaving the states so if you want to find out more details about how we can close up this deal, do not hesitate to contact me and I will respond at my earliest convenience.
>
> Thanks,
> Keith
Hi Mark,
The car has clear title and comes with a large collection of history files, manuals and receipts.
Because of the fact that I am quite busy with my job and unable to travel back to the States, I have decided to hire a company to ship the vehicle and take care of the sale for me. The shipping & payment part of the transaction will be handled by Cliffe Shipping Youghal Limited .The vehicle is now located in their transit warehouse from Seattle, WA because I had a buyer from there but he canceled the deal due to a decease in the family. They have in their custody both the vehicle and the title signed for release, which had been verified by their inspectors and they already gave the go ahead to begin the transaction.
Regarding the payment, there is a 3 days inspection period available for you once you will receive the vehicle in which you have the possibility to do an inspection to any authorized service of your choice before the company will release any money to me. If you will decide not to keep it for any reason the vehicle will be sent back to me (free of charge for you) and you will get a full refund no questions asked. So basically I only receive the money if you are happy about what you are buying.

Please read their how it works webpage ( Cliffe Shipping Youghal Limited - Courier Services & Delivery Company ) and decide if you agree or not.

To be able to start this transaction you need to register on the shipping company's website. Once you are done, I will approve the deal from my account and Cliffe will contact you in order to go ahead with the purchase.

P.S. You should know that the vehicle will be shipped anywhere within the States at my expense !

Looking forward to successfully completing this transaction.

Keith

Dear Mr. ,

Mr. Keith Robertson is registered with us as the seller of a 1954 Packard Convertible with a clear title in his name. The vehicle is located in our warehouse from Seattle WA, crated and ready to be delivered. The complete sale price including the shipping is US $12,800.00.

Unfortunately, we cannot arrange for customer's pick up because in Seattle, WA is only a transit warehouse without any packing or sealing materials. The vehicle has passed the inspection and now is inside a 20ft dedicated container sealed and ready to be shipped.

VEHICLE INSPECTION REPORT - SUMMARY
This vehicle passes Landfall inspection. An owner's manual and spare key are included.
Encumbrance status - No encumbrance reported.
Written off status - No written off incidents reported.
Odometer reading - No odometer rollback reported.
Stolen status - No record of vehicle as stolen.
Cosmetic Condition - No flaws above normal wear were found.

The next step you should make in order to start the transaction is to visit our registration webpage: Cliffe Shipping Youghal Limited - Courier Services & Delivery Company and complete the form below with your delivery details. Then make sure to forward your username to the seller because he must start the transaction with us and once everything is ready, we will contact you with all the details about payment and delivery.

After your payment is secured in one of our protection account, we are authorized to start the shipping procedures.
If, by any chance, you reject the vehicle and request a refund, this will be issued to you within 3 business days and the vehicle will be returned back from where it came from. All the fees will be paid upfront and will be credited to the sender of the shipment.

Our escrow program assures third-party protection for your goods and money over an Internet-based transaction. It works by securing the payment until the buyer receives, inspects and agrees the condition of the vehicle. The inspection period for such transactions is 1 to 10 days, depending on the agreement of the parties. In your case, the seller has signed for a "3 days inspection period", meaning that you will have 3 days to inspect the vehicle, take it to a workshop and do all the necessary checks (EG visual and mechanical condition, paperwork).
The steps that the seller and the buyer have to proceed are detailed on our How It Works webpage.

We hope this helps with your planning and please do let us know if you would like any further details.

Pretty convincing.

Far more serious, but similar to the equipment scam seen on ebay lately. There was a thread on this here at PP.

Setting aside all the political BS from BOTH sides there should be a dedicated section for scammers and rip offs. There’s nothing worst for the hobby and hobbyists

All these scam emails read the same way, you can tell English is not their first language.

greazzer 11-14-2018 06:22 PM

They do to some degree but I deal with folks on a weekly basis where English is not the other side’s primary language so it’s not a biggie for me. The issue is the extent the scammers go

When we were looking for a home to rent in NV I saw a very nice home on CL for a reasonable amount. I responded and got a LONG reply in crappy English with instructions to send the deposit to a certain address and the keys would be mailed and also to ignore the "for sale" sign and feel free to look in the windows. Turns out the house is for sale and the CL ad was copied and pasted from the MLS listing.

Unfortunately common. I once found my own building listed as for rent for half the price on Craigslist. (Was currently for rent using a realtor). The scam is collecting security deposits.

Yeah, that one ls pretty obvious. Any email that starts out with the usual "im not in the country" ect, and a point about how busy they are sends up red flags.

Have some fun with this one and call the FBI and CBP.

They will like the diversion.
