Volvo XC90 AWD 2007- 2010?

Hello all, I'm looking at the Volvo XC90 AWD SUV, years 2007 - 2010. They seem like a solid, reliable machine. Does anyone have any experience with these particular SUV?

I don't own one myself. But my brother in England does. His being the diesel version. He likes it. And it's served them well for several trips to Europe, including camping in the Austrian Alps and Slovenia. With four people and two large dogs.

But he has had to several issues with it including an issue with water ingress into the cable run space between the actual floor and the false floor your feet rest on. Apparently this was caused by two issues. One a problem with the area under the wipers where the air flow into the blower motor originates and also a pencil lead sized hole in a weld on the firewall behind the pedals. This necessitated removal of all the seats and the entire "false floor".

He also had to re-build the entire front end and steering rack which mean the car was up on jacks for about two months while he pulled everything under the hood except the engine itself, send the steering rack off for re-building and re-did entire front suspension himself.

He was able to do all this himself for what that's worth but of course it took him a couple of months of back breaking work.

How this translates to what you will experience with one I don't know but they at least appear to be vehicles that are somewhat amenable to DIY depending on your skill level/determination/desperation...

- Peter.

Thank you for sharing; my concern is the fact that the Chinese purchased the Volvo company. I'm concerned that quality standards will be maintained.

Seems like a moot point if you're looking at 10 year old cars...that's when they were owned by Ford. Our 2014 s60 has been nothing but excellent. Friends with newer models have had similar positive experiences. The Chinese seem to be doing a pretty good job of improving the quality over the Ford years. I personally would avoid anything prior to 2009.

Not my kinda Volvo, but two of my neighbors have them. They have been around for years so they can't be all that bad.

Brickboard doesn't seem very active these days. Swedespeed and Volvospeed might be worth a visit.

As I read in Consumer Reports, a Yamaha-built 4.4 liter V8 is the "best" version, but the motor was dropped after 2011.
