considering a 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-450 with just over 110,000 miles

Checking out a 2012 MB GL-450 with just over 110,000 miles on the clock. Interior is leather, there is not a scratch on the interior or the exterior. The doors feel like the proverbial bank vault when opening and closing. According to CARFAX, all maintenance was performed by the dealer. They are asking 17K.

Fuel mileage is around 16 in the city, 20 on the highway. I'm concerned about ongoing maintenance costs........your ideas and input are appreciated!

NOTE: I tried editing the title to change the year from 2011 to 2012 and mileage from 100K to 110K. For some reason the changes do not show....

If you are sensitive to maintenance costs, then: No warranty, no likee.

Toyota Land Cruiser or its Lexus cousin...

They're not bad cars, 2012 being the last year for the X164.

Things to watch out for - airmatic struts fails from time to time and render the car inop. People ignore the warning signs of a bad bag and will just let them inflate everytime the car starts, leading to airmatic pump failure. Can be a costly fix (or inexpensive) depending on what needs to be replaced and if you do your own work. The 722.9 sometimes will throw a fit if the conductor plate fails, but some aftermarket outfits are repairing them; but will ultimately require a dealer trip if replacement is needed. (a shop with a full MB connected SDS should be able to do to the replacement and programming too)

By the time this X164 was rolling off the production lines, the mechanicals of the engine, transmission, diffs, and brakes were figured out. I've got an early W164 CDI and aside from having my oil cooler resealed and conductor plate replaced, has been great for 2.5 years/50k miles. I'll likely keep it until something major happens and upgrade to a W166.
