From the other thread I thought you stated your rates went down $57/month. It sounds like they may be reflecting that they are insuring the same vehicles, and there in itself should lower your rates. They are covering a lower cost vehicle each year. I called out my carrier two years after a jump for adding a newer vehicle, they dropped my rate minimally also.

update - So far my avg savings using the device is $280 a yr. Not bad for driving normally. I don't think it has changed my driving habits but I have no way of measuring. The scoring is a percentage scale of 1-100. Right now I am at 79% which is close to my avg.

Each drive is logged and it will tell you what "rules" you broke. There are 4 things it looks at. Speed, braking, cornering and cell usage. You get ding for each violation.

It saves me money so why not.

No, not for calls. They only ding for texting. I have been dinged few times for that because I will text when I am at a re light or while stopped in a parking lot or drive way.

ain't right, shouldn't have to cycle the engine off. Bring it up to them that need to associate it with the vehicle moving and credit you back. I theory you could be standing outside your car or someone else driving?

If the wife and I are in the car together, I just ensure that the phone of the person driving is the one paired. As for the rest, just easier not to text till I get to my final destination. On the rare occasion a text is needed, I take the ding. The rates are based on a 6 month avg and texting is the least of my worries. Speed and cornering is a bigger issue. My route has several turns where it is a wide thoroughfare with sweeping turns, the app does not differentiate that turn from a hard 90 turn onto a 1 lane in terms of speed.

Bottom line is I saved almost $300 in a year and did not have to do anything to save it. That's a win for me.

I can send text via bluetooth. Long press the talk button, then tell Siri to send a text. Works on my wife’s accord too.

That will get a ding? I also tell siri to read the text.

Does not matter who you use as the intermediary.....your phone sends the text so ... yes, you get dinged.

Cars have had black boxes for decades.

A friend of mine in the 1990's worked for GM. His job was to download data from cars that were in crashes with deaths or injuries that had airbag deployments. He'd do this on the down-low, mostly at junkyards. He probably slipped some junkyard Bubba to let him get at the car.

Yes. I suspect there is no way to know how a text was entered into a cell phone. On the other hand, a phone call is a phone call... them's the rules.
