What DOES happen is shortening Hours Worked and in some cases workers replaced by automation. Shorter work weeks benefit no-one except the employers. Shorter work weeks relieve the employers from the necessity to provide benefits and result in an overall productivity increase.

Automation requires investment in process which will stay in the future. Workers displaced by automation will not come back to work in their same capacity. True, many can be retrained in other fields but the entry level jobs will be gone forever. Those that feel the pinch will be the least educated, the poorest and for those of you professing to "care so much" the immigrants escaping the tyranny of lower wages in their home countries.

Of course wage increases are a given but such increases must be measured, not slugged.

What would min wage be today had it kept up with inflation?

There should be no federal minimum wage, leave it up to the states. That is just another way for Dems to buy votes with other peoples money.

Thank the Rs. Guaranteed if they reduce a tax for ordinary folks they will increase it for them somewhere else. Did we come out ahead? I don't imagine so.

I came out ahead, thank you President Trump, or should I say not as far behind due to taxes.

Roger this Slo.

In any case, "minimum wage" is really not intended as a comfortable living wage. It is just what it says; minimum. It is an entry level wage and/or one that generally requires a supplement of some sort, or is a supplement to another wage.

I don't think that the original intent of Minimum Wage was to allow low wage earners to enjoy the same life-style as someone making more. A wage level that does that is essentially a word that starts with S or even C.

Every wage earner deserves the aspiration and opportunity to make far more than MW.

Is your complaint that I didn't bother to spell out opportunity?
