Still my favorite female athlete...

...Yelena Slesarenko, high jump gold medalist 2004, Athens. She set an Olympic record of 2.06 meters, about 6'9". She's about 5'11", short for a lady high jumper. I chanced upon this footage yesterday. Hadn't seen it in years. Something about this lady is pure grace gently smoothed over raw power for me. I mean 6'9"? Just the way she runs across the pitch to her coach at the end is amazing. That's the way women should run.

I'm with Auto y'all. She is my favorite although one time it looked like she may have had a little throw up in her mouth.

I never high jumped seriously - we had a sand high jump pit in grade school, I got up to 4 feet, that at about age 12. Didn't try it again until til the summer of the '76 Olympics. I and some friends were inspired by the high jumpers to set up a bar and make a pit of box springs and mattresses.

Somehow we got it good enough to make it safe for the flop. I could only make it to 5'4". Oh well. Was fun anyway.

I found another vid of Miss Slesarenko that shows off some of her talent. At the end the way she glides off the mat and then ambles across the approach is wild to my eyes. Reminds me a bit of Michael Jordan in terms of sheer beauty and atleticism in the way she moves. I know, she's a bit thin, hardly any boobies but dang, the way she moves. I've always been a leg man anyway.

Oh yes, she is a cutie all right. Volleyball often brings some fine female talent.
