Solved: Bootable NVMe SSD in laptop

I futzed around with this thing, $20 POS, too much with no results. The answer was simple, if you know it. COIK

Clear secure boot in the BIOS(EUFI). Remove all drives except SSD and installation USB. When you get to the screen with the disk and partitions, delete all of the partitions until it has only one unallocated space. That's it, simple.

This helped:

OK, I'll bite. What is NVME?

Non Volatile Memory express. Standard for accessing the SSD memory style.

Get with it Tyler! How come an old fart like me knows what it is and you whippersnappers don't?:P

Actually I've been involved with PC'c and main frames since the early-mid '70's so I've got a leg up on most of the younger techs. Keeping up with new software is my failing. Too many and too fast changes for me to keep abreast of.

Interesting; thanks.

As long as it will run Win 3.1 I am ok.

Hmm, might be a problem there. I don't think Win3.1 has the capability to access the boot sectors required. Have you considered updating to a O.S. from THIS century?:D

You might also want to upgrade that 1200baud dial-up modem.:D

Was joke. I also know Fortran IV.

Mike D 08-21-2019 01:54 PM

Do ya still use a slide rule and abacus also?:D:D:D

Every now and then I dust off my slide rule just to keep my memory fresh on how to use the danged thing. Took it to a course I was taking just to confound all the kids in the class.

What version is FORTAN up to now? The last I was dealing with it was the '95 version and I imagine there's been scads more versions released.

Fortran went the same way as QuattroPro; just disappeared as far as I know.
