Anyone use SAM-e, aka S-adenosyl-L-methionine?

I've been taking one in the morning, off and on for about 18 years. My early reading said that SAM-e is a substance produced in the body that is a part of every electrical transference of information. I think I have that right. And as we age the production of it declines. Also read that the byproducts of it's manufacture and metabolization are part of the building blocks of cartilage.

Apparently a reproduction of the actual substance doesn't work so the supplement contains the precursors for the manufacture of the stuff.

Has long been touted as a mild and natural anti-depressant, as it supposedly enhances smooth cellular communication - neurotransmitters might be the word I want. And is said to reduce the pain of simple arthritis.

It's been looked at pretty widely. I got casual about using it a few years back but have gone back to it religiously in about the last 8 months, that is, every morning without fail. Should be taken on an empty stomach. I gather that one should use an enteric coated variety so the ingredients survive stomach acid. Cheaper non-enteric versions can be found. I also swallow a pinch of brewers yeast with it as vit B and folic acid supposedly enhance it's metabolizing. I get mine at Costco, 400mg, works out to about 60 cents a tab.

Dunno if I'm going all placebo n chit but my joint pain seems to be doing better. I dunno. Don't take my word for it, read everything you can find.

No but using astragulus membranus, that annd diabetes 2 meds,promote longer telomermes. Been getting stronger after surgery,feel like early 40s now.

yep try it nate,and tumeric. Now I can't take tumeric,as I had H.Pylori, and stomach has scars,plus take alot of anti inflamatories for arthritis

Is that I hate dope of any stripe having seen so many lives ruined and lost because of it .

I think I'll try the Elixir 1200 first and see how that works out, I's subscribed to this thread so I can always find my way back to it if necessary .

I quit using dietary supplements except for the proven ones like B12 and I get that from legit sources ( I hope ).

Several years ago I tried to help a former high school friend with his dietary supplements company ( in central Oklahoma ). As a few months passed I found out most of his products were not proper ( fake, whatever word you want to use ). Most were made by a company out of Mineral Wells Texas. One of the products was SAM-e. My 'friend' was selling it for $120 for a small bottle of tablets. Turns out the people that took it got an energy jolt from the 'caffeine' that was in the tablet. Mineral Wells company used a dried plant powder out of central/south america that was naturally high in caffeine. This ingredient was not disclosed on the label. I suspect ' they ' were responsible for ' killing ' a few people that were allergic to high doses of caffeine. I answered a phone call one day from an 81 year old man. He was calling to report that his family had to call 911 after he collapsed a while after taking the fake SAM-e. He took the SAM-e twice because he didn't think it was the cause of his first collapse.

After that I quit trying to help my friend and tried to have him shutdown by law enforcement and the FDA. High level state detective told me over lunch that they didn't get any ' browny ' points for investigating things like I was describing. ' His words - it wasn't rape or murder '... Even though to me, they probably would have found people that had died soon after taking the product.

The FDA ' regional location out of Dallas ' actually told me to never call them back about the subject. Their words ' we don't have enough people to investigate things like that '..

Some of the other products were Co-Q10. Weight loss, etc....

Another product was a mineral water. This is not a fake product, but doesn't mean it is good for you. It was sourced out of Idaho. Just rock ground to a powder. No sanitation, mouse turds, whatever else went into it.

I believe a person could actually take any animals dried poop. Grind it up and put it into capsules and sell it as a ' natural ' fiber digestive aid with ' pro-biotic ' content. This could probably be sold without any government oversight until someone took civil legal action.

Most of the cheaper and probably some of the expensive dietary supplements contain ' powder sourced from China and third world countries. Who knows what is actually in that powder? There is virtually no government oversight. The government lets the industry ' self police '.

The machines to make capsules or tablets are also available from China. If you want to make a couple of million a year, like my ' friend ', you might consider this.

talking about capsules,as I told some,I used saw plametto for my prostate,Its better than the doctor meds. Super Beta,or Wal Marts generic is good to,but expensive. But any ways the last I got was capsules,I was taking 2 morning,and 2 evenings. Peeing got rough.For one I have trouble after laying down,my stenosis messes with feeling,or ability to push urine.Have to walk around to get feeling back. But I noticed whole capsules in my poop. So I switched to soft gels,now peeing is better. But still have numbing problem. I have a enlarged prostate too.
