As for racing, we're probably too far apart to pull it off but perhaps we could meet up at an autocross somewhere halfway between. I am a fairly slow driver compared to the numerous national champions I have competed alongside and against in our SCCA Indy region, but I have a fast C mod.

Actually the C mod has a four speed transaxle with dogs instead of synchros allowing shifts without touching the clutch. The clutch is needed only for takeoff. The shift is as quick as the blink of an eye.

I did once have a 66 corvair with the powerslide....very poor combination.

The reason is that I want to DRIVE MY CAR MYSELF, this generation has just proclaimed " I'm not good at this and I don't want to learn so I'll have a computer do it for me. " And it's worn off on everything and everyone. That crap is great for most people because they suck at driving, BUT it also just continues to make people worse drivers. I watched a guy key fob his Tesla out of a parking space the other day. Someone mentioned that they were faster around a track with a pdk than a manual but still preferred a manual. Unless you are someone like that I'll bet my feet are better abs and traction control than your computer on a race track. That **** keeping you from running into people on the street and improving lap times are very different. The cleetus McFarland YouTube channel just did a review on the c8 and the traction control was cutting in alot until he cut it off. If you want to keep up with the Joneses at cars and coffee you can have your computers. I'll still take 3 pedals all day long. Good luck pop starting your car when your overused start-stop feature kills a starter in 10 years. Or figuring out what is wrong when it won't go into gear, hell I can drive my car with no clutch pedal in an emergency.

Well not sure how that was missed. The turbo engine is the key In the car that the thread started with. The 240d is not really running and it's a 240d. Just a more suitable chassis to build an elcamino, lighter and easier to modify suspension as well. I don't think I was rude actually. I asked you on a personal message because I was trying to get a timely response and info after days of waiting, before I went to a pick a part the next day.

And auto flappy things still suck.

The original root of this thread. Flappy paddle shifters. No clutch pedal. I don't even have a Twitter thing.

Was not a joke. People vote with their purchases.

Manual transmissions account for just 2 percent of all vehicles sold in 2018, according to data from Edmunds.com. In 2006, 47 percent of new models in the U.S. were offered with automatics and manuals. Now it’s down to 20 percent and dropping sharply.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/autos/sc-auto-cover-manual-transmissions-20180710-story.html

That number dropped to 1% for 2019. The vote happened .... you lost. Odds are over the next few years the manual trans will vanish altogether.

I heard that the number of cars equipped with drum brakes dropped just as precipitously during that same period, ruining the pleasure of driving for drum-brake aficionados...

I'm surprised how many cars still have drum-brakes.

I remember as a kid when my father would drive through deep puddles in our 1964 Imperial and the water would make the drum brakes magically go away. Fun times...

Well considering I don't own a car newer than 1999 I'm not the one to blame. I own at least 10 manual trans cars from 1960-1983.
I didn't vote at all in 16 so you can't blame me for Trump either. My choice won here so it didn't rely equate to anything. That very low percentage is due to it being a percentage of all cars. I'm sure the percentage of performance cars is way higher. I believe someone mentioned 20% of c7 were manual. If there's chocolate and vanilla and only 20% of sales are chocolate, they still aren't going to piss away 20% by eliminating it completely. 1-2% sure.
