First probable riots.

The existing food supply chain cannot meet the demand currently. Simply because those that can. Will continue over buying. For at least a month in my opinion.

Trump did have a meeting with the CEOS of the major food stores. Yet did not enable rationing or limitations of quantity of food purchased. So the food riots will probably erupt in the larger cities first.

North America is stuck with administrations that only react to situations at best. Where proactive behavior is required. The Canadian government has not proven any better.

Both governments where freely allowing sick people into the country. Still are in fact. Both administrations are finished as lack of leadership. The vacuum they have created will be filled by others. What both have done goes way beyond any level of acceptability.

American states and Canadian provinces are trying to do what they can at this time. The central governments of both countries have proven dysfunctional in both countries with this.

China both gave them time to act and proved that you can control this virus.

The rioting if it happens should be in the largest cities to start with.

When it comes to food shortages, all bets are off. Nowadays with people being as mean spirited as they are, don't be surprised to see riots at the local food mart.

We have no community spread of the virus in my province of Nova Scotia. Yet the food supply is pretty beat up already. Most food essentials are totally sold out.

Actually almost a miracle as all of north America has been letting sick people in. We have closed the border with Canada and America. In only this part of the country. Plus put provincial health employees to check on what the federal customs people are doing for screening at our international airport. Passengers have claimed it was a total joke.

This is an act of desperation as there is no real workable screening process for virus. Only an absolute enforced quarantine of incoming passengers works.

We were told some time ago that over seventy years old stay at home. We also are systematically shutting down the province. Before any community spread cases are here. We realize that the economy could become really rough if we allow it in our province. We may have beaten it here before it starts.

We do have three incoming cases locked down solid though. One misteak can be one too many. They should have force quarantined the remaining plane load or sent them back. Telling the other passengers to just stay at home can infect the other family members. If they have caught the virus. Major, major error.

Why am I reacting as I am. China built hospitals at a furious pace. I suspect they also built complex breathing equipment at a similar pace. This may be why their fatality rate was so low. I would not expect north America to have the quantity of the machines needed for a serious outbreak.

With the onslaught of veganism, my great challenge protecting my lawn may not be dandelions.

There was something on the news last night about ventilators. I think 160,000 in US hospitals. 10,000 possibly more in US Services. Wouldn't give exact amount. There are 5 or so companies that make ventilators Worldwide. One of them is in the US, possibly more of those 5. They only were approved to make ventilators 2 years ago. They make 300 per month. They plan to ramp up to 1,000 per month. These are the only portable ventilators. That's a huge advantage with mobile services. Still, scary. They predict a need for 9,000,000 cases. Don't know if that is all at once, or some get better and others get put on a ventilator.
Edit, one to many Zeros. 900,000.

That is partially what flattening the curve of cases is about. Keeping the need for ventilators above demand.

This virus can move very fast. From no virus in our province to 12 cases in two days. Fortunately no cases in our area of the province are known.
Not being known does not mean much though.

We as a couple never panicked in any way. Yet at the same time some issues have risen. The country that north America is compared to in dealing with this is Italy. Too early to tell yet the last thing in the world you would want.

It is almost like a ghost town in many places in Canada today. In places where you always have rush hour traffic there was not a vehicle in sight. There was no mandate for everyone to stay at home yet the vast majority seem to be doing it. Just wait till they find out the estimates for the expected duration. I can only hope everything estimated is pessimistic.
