So, I did a thing...

It's not particularly exciting, but it is pretty special:

She needs a little bit of TLC as she sat for a few years (only ~500 miles were put on from the time Jim had passed to when I bought her), but she's still got all the mods from Jim and is almost in the same shape as when Jim had her!

I'll post some additional pictures once I get her cleaned up, but she's drives as good as I remember from back in the day.

I think that might be the car that JimB scared the pants off of me and Dee8go in while navigating narrow steets in SF back in the late oh-ohs IIRC. Fast car.

in the family

Glad shes still in the family. I look forward to helping you with her.

Photo from my first Mercedes-Shop meet. Took this photo and moments later introduced myself to Jim and Justin (iwrock).

What is that model number again? And tell us about the engine, I can’t remember anything about it.

Looks great, probably a 560SEC, 5.6L engine. IMO one of the best looking designs on four wheels.

I remember when he built the engine....not sure if 5.6 but he got all the good non smog euro parts IIRC. I cannot imagine how it ever passed California smog rules.

560SEC in 90% euro dress. Mechanically has the 10:1 M117968 HV engine, corresponding tri-y exhaust, and matching 2.65 LSD.

It retained most of the smog related controls for visual inspection, but they're not hooked up.

Great that you bought this car. This style Benz will live in infamy in my mind. I love 'em.

What is the history of the car since the engine fire? Who bought it from Jim's widow?

I don't think you know what infamy is.
