Yankees fan, Mets fan team up to sue MLB over coronavirus-canceled games

Quote:
LOS ANGELES — A pair of fans in New York sued Major League Baseball, Commissioner Rob Manfred and the 30 teams, asking for their money back for tickets and for certification of class-action status.

The lawsuit was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles by Matthew Ajzenman, who said he bought a partial season plan for more than 20 Mets games; and Susan Terry-Bazer, who said she purchased six tickets for a May 9 game at Yankee Stadium against Boston.

“Baseball fans are stuck with expensive and unusable tickets for unplayable games in the midst of this economic crisis,” the lawsuit said. “Under the pretext of `postponing’ games, at the directive of MLB, teams and ticket merchants are refusing to issue refunds for games which are not going to be played as scheduled — if ever.”
I can’t accept MLB keeping people’s money for games not played, and not scheduled for play soon, as a rain-out.

We got our money refunded from a Broadway play not held, and for a timely cruise cancellation.

I do wonder what other people’s experience is about paid-for events cancelled or things not delivered.

I suspect that MLB is still struggling over what to do with a season that has yet to begin. They may be playing in Arizona without fans, or they may play a partial season. Or it could be a year without baseball. Hopefully, they will make a suitable offer to customers with committed agreements once they figure it out. Most businesses have returned deposits or refunded tickets.

Our cruise line first told us 10 business days for a refund. Then they said that they would hold the deposit (if we wanted) and give us 125% credit on our next cruise or a refund. We said we want the refund since we cancelled within the contracted cancellation time. They then said it would take one to two billing cycles. We said, eff that, and protested the charge to the credit card, and gave an explanation. The credit card company gave us status a few days later saying they had contacted the company, and the company had X number of days to respond. Shortly after that, we got credited from the cruise company, but it came in three separate credits, all on the same day, but totaling the correct amount.

I don’t know when, if ever, I will return to cruising.

There are several disadvantages to cruising ranging from the obvious to the not-so-obvious.

1. You are onboard a ship with 5,000 people who are most likely untrained and uneducated mariners. Many of them do not know how to swim much less properly man a life boat.

2. Once the ship leaves the territorial waters of the United States, international maritime law applies. There was a story a few years ago about a girl who was raped by one of the cruise ship's employees. She went to the FBI about it; the FBI then informed her that due to the territorial jurisdictional issues, they were not able to do anything to help her.

3. Cruise ship doctors. Quality ranges from so-so to OK. If you become deathly ill while on the cruise, your best bet is to get off the boat and to a U.S. hospital as soon as possible. If the ship is hundreds of miles at sea that might take awhile which means you might die while waiting.

Good luck.

I come from a family of sea captains and none of them would touch a cruise with a 300 foot pole.

I've never been a fan of cruises, but this has pretty much sealed the deal for me. You couldn't pay me enough to take a cruise.

We used to do land tours. On our own, we have seen most of the US national parks. In Europe, we had taken several bus tours. We no longer can deal with living out of a suitcase and being on the go every single day. This past summer, we took a cruise that went round trip Amsterdam, around the British Isles, then up the French coast and Belgium and back to Amsterdam.

I feel I had access to modern medicine if I needed it. I don’t go to third world countries.

Many who drive don't know how, many on planes know nothing about planes. Your safest bet is to stay in your mommy's basement and not have any contact with the out side world.

Been on two cruises and will go on more in the future. On the list is a Med cruise or two. River Cruise in Europe. Possibly a Panama transit cruise. Also want to go to Alaska again.

be sure and not fall ill while cruising; you won't like the medical care you receive. And pray you NEVER have to get in a lifeboat with the other moronic cruisers who are both panic stricken and don't know how to swim.

Good luck.

We are not so sure we will ever go on a cruise again. We were willing to risk a stomach virus, but this? Nope.

Stories of the stomach virus went like this: if the cruise line gives you one, they try to make anyone who has it stay in their cabin for the rest of the cruise. That is their “treatment”. So, you can catch it while on the ship, be confined to quarters because of it, and get nothing back from your expensive but wasted vacation which caused you to be sick in the first place and spend the rest of your cruise in a room so small you basically use it to sleep and change clothes in.

As stories like that got out, the consensus on the Cruise Critic site was to never see the ship’s doctor for anything other than a stroke, heart attack, or broken bones.
