The world of computers beating the crap out of me again
 

One of my favorite features of the interwebs is Google Earth - has been for more than 10 years.

A few weesks ago I was having weird glitches come up repeatedly that made it inoperable. In the past I've had luck with deleting a program and reloading it as a way of renewing good function.

So I deleted Google Earth and tried to reload it but it's not offering download suggestions and steps like it once did.

It seemed to be acting more like a web site you open when you want to use it. Slightly new look but about the same. This worked for about 5 or 6 visits, over a few week period.

Today when I clicked on the "Launch Earth" tab, as had been working heretofore, I got this message:

Unfortunately your computer does not support WebGL graphics acceleration; Google Earth cannot be loaded. Learn more.

'Learn more' was hyperlink, I clicked and was told:

Your browser supports WebGL.
You should see a spinning cube. If you do not, please visit the support site for your browser.

I was seeing a spinning cube, the following figure doing a nifty 3D spin:

'Visit the support site for your browser' was also a hyperlink

I can't get any useful direction on how to adjust my settings to get it to work. Every quickie tutorial tells me to look for and click on tabs that aren't there. Amazing how often this happens.

It kills me. Google Earth worked well for a long time. Surey there's a fix for this.

The kids can usually pull it off. I'll see if I can find a chat room dealing with such issues.

Try using Chrome as your browser and see if you run into the same issues.
They are both Google products and they should play well with each other.
Make sure you are running the current/latest version of Chrome.

well ... someone has to beat the stuff out of you from time to time and better the puters than me :D get yer guts sowed back in yet?

I use chrome. I did a search to see how to identify what version I was using, found this:

I did so, can't find an "Update Google Chrome" button. I clicked various other buttons to see if it might under a sub heading - no luck. Sounded like a good idea though.

It depends on the version of earth you are using.
With the "stand-alone" version: https://www.google.nl/earth/download/gep/agree.html
Go to Options > Cache and then Remove cache (Both)
If that does not help go to Options > 3D and check DirectX (or any other to see the effect) and restart the program to apply the changes.
If it still does not work go to the download page and chose an older version, it is possible that you computer is not compatible with the latest version.
