Crash Box Trannies
#1 : a 1959 Rambler had a Borg Warner three speed tranny with only first gear non synchronized .
# 2 : any straight cut gear box is by definition a crasher . I bet this thing is a hoot to drive, I wish I had the skill set to try it . I can shift most trannies without using the clutch nor grinding the gears .

Our car was an american and did not have any synchromesh. I knew how to double clutch before I had a license. I'm not sure if it meets the definition of straight crash though.
The Van Dieman is a hoot to drive. The trick is getting in and out.

1959 Rambler American
I remember these well .
Yours may have had a dragging clutch or worn out synchronizers but it certainly had synchros on 2nd & 3rd gears....

I have spent a good while trying to prove our car had no synchromesh. The only reference to a non synchro rambler american comes from the section of Mexican production:
From Wikipedia: The 1967 models saw a new semiconcave squared tail light design and the five-dial instrument cluster with a round speedometer at the very center. The best change for the year appeared in the form of the fully synchronized 150-T model three-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, meaning the end of non-synchromesh units in VAM cars. The new transmission was joined by a 3.73:1 rear differential gear ratio. Hazard lights were added to the standard equipment list. Seems unlikely we had a Mexican built car in Greencastle Indiana but I suppose it is possible with the University there someone brought one up? I can remember double clutching it into second at a higher speed than possible without the synchro and no double clutching.

Another non specific wikipedia note: Prior to 1960, most cars used constant-mesh but non-synchronous transmissions.
I looked in my old car repair books too but no dice.

Just go crack a shop manual, you'll see .
Almost every American car made before 1968 had non synchro 1st gear . Over hauling them was regular corner filling station work .

You've not looked in the 1959 Rambler shop manual or you'd see . This is getting silly .

If I had one I would look at it. Do you have one?
This is an American not a full sized Classic (is that the right name?)

Flash-O-Matic Slush box
That too was a Borg Warner product, the same one designed for the Ford V8 powered cars, that's why it's so robust and rarely fails in normal use .
The #35 , I have the Metric version from a 1979 Datsun B210 in my 1959 Nash Metropolitan FHC, it's designation is the M35 .
