Robo SPAM calls
The frequency and hours of spam calls has increased recently to where I have been awakened several times. I don't like to turn off the phone at night for obvious reasons. This is on our VOIP home "land line" number we have had 30+ years. So as I lay awake trying to go back to sleep I pondered different solutions. I could just turn off the ringer-that would be the easiest solution but one more thing to do. The callers are very clever with masking the caller ID but I know they are fake and never answer. I have signed up and renewed the "Do not call" registry. I considered maybe there are smarter cordless phones than our 10 year old ones. Anyone deal with this and have a solution? Maybe our VOIP carrier has an automated DND feature-I will have to check.
EDIT My carrier does have DND but any calls will receive a message saying we are not accepting calls. I want the ability to have a legit caller leave a message. I guess any solution will have to happen on my end. Maybe smarter phones with programable DND?

ROBO Calls
I gave up and installed a cheap answering machine and listen whenever my home land line rings .
Unless I'm anticipating an important call I stopped answering over a decade ago . Just in this year they've begun calling just before or right at sunup ~ I think they know folks will think it's important and answer .

That's what I'm talking about-I don't want to be awakened. I think there are some phone systems with DND. Checking Amazon.

The solution is easy; simply call the phone company and tell them you want to change your phone number. They will ask why; simply tell them you are receiving harassing calls at night and are unable to sleep. Then, only give the new number out to a small number of friends and family. Make them promise to not give it out to anyone without your permission.
You'll need to change the number about every 3 - 5 years even after doing the foregoing. |

Yea I need to keep the number. Looked on Amazon-lots of phone systems that screen spam. Not sure how they do it-still learning.

Interesting article on SPAM calls. Sounds like there is no stopping them. Since they never seem to use the same number twice most of the spam blocking will not work.

The phone companies know where the calls are coming from. If properly motivates, I expect they can do something about it.

Not sure how the calls work in your neck of the woods but here they just spoof a number. I blocked numbers on my cell phone for a year and did not notice a drop in calls. Every time it seems to be a new number they use. I fear you are fighting a losing battle. Good luck.

I ended up turning off the ringer on the BR phone and just check for messages when I get up. The phone flashes if there is a message so I will know if someone called. Usually the calls come in the morning if I am sleeping in not in the night.

They have a "scam likely" feature. When their software detects sketchy footwork with their phone numbers and caller ID, I forget what it's called - might be mentioned in this thread - they give out an alert that some boo-chit is ahead. I've never found them to be wrong. I click such calls away and never have had a message left by one that told me I made a mistake.

I just have the cordless phone on at night(ringer off)in case I need to make an emergency call. I never have devices on at night.
