Why I do not ride a bicycle, mini-bike, motor scooter or moped on public streets.

Family members of mine have been killed riding two wheelers on public highways. I last heard about an 80 year old women riding a bicycle up an on ramp to an interstate highway at 4:00 AM wearing dark clothing with no lighting on her bicycle. She was hit and killed by an SUV. Law of the jungle; heavier machinery will win each and every time.

Idiots.

Almost weekly there’s a bicyclist or pedestrian flattened where I live in the same fashion. Homeless and tweakers need to live smarter

Maybe wanted to get some cardio in early that day. Were the health clubs closed making her spin class off limits?

I dunno; I do know that the on ramps are poorly lit and with her wearing dark clothing, no lights on her bicycle, etc. she was an accident waiting to happen.

Two days ago I was out on a walk in the neighborhood. Guy was on a bicycle traveling down the left side of the street. Suddenly and unexpectedly, he darts over to the right side of the street without first looking over his right shoulder to check oncoming traffic. At the same time a jeep in the right lane comes barreling up his 6'oclock.

Fortunately, the jeep turned left onto a side street just before it hit him. The bicycle guy continues down the street totally clueless that he had just come within a few feet of possible death.

Unhappy A DATE WITH DEATH

This is sad but preventable .

I'm still riding my Motocycles in spite of nearly being killed by a gypsy cab that ran me over whilst I was waiting for a red light .

I have no excuse for still riding, I just cannot seem to stop .

I now have a flashing red light on the back, the typ used by the smarter cyclists of al stripes .

I wonder what happened with the truck in Nevada, he hit a CAR, not a small thing .

The old woman must have had a death wish or dementia .

I see so many bicyclists riding in places they shouldn't or simply dangerously, that bull**** of " every one gets a full lane" is simply that : BULL**** because, the basic laws of physics mean the cyclist will lose, every time .

I wonder husky man : has nothing good ever occurred in your entire life ? .

A client of mine, a highly intelligent Engineer, used to Ride bicycle on us 52, which at his house, is a four lane marked 60 mph with his wife. He determined that the law said he was entitled to the whole lane, so they were using it all.
One day they were riding along and a car running at normal highway speed hit him. It drove the seat right through his pelvis and his vital plumbing parts. I don't know how, but He did survive.

it is amazing to me how smart people can make dumb decisions.

Awhile back I was at a friend's business when a guy walks in wearing a Harley-Davidson T-shirt. He told my friend and I that he used to ride motorcycles a lot.

That was until he noticed at the biker gatherings he attended that more and more of his friends were showing up either walking with the use of a cane or they were in a wheel chair. He said he knew if he hadn't stopped he would have ended up without the use of one or more of his limbs.

A lack of common sense or the ability to assess or respect risk is very common.People that accept obvious excessive risks tend to know what they are doing.Perhaps that is a form of fatalisim. I do not know.

On a deeper level, many people walk around this earth believing the entire world revolves around THEM. To some two wheel riders, cars, SUVS and trucks do not have a right to the streets and highways that rightfully belong to THEM.

There is the issue called 'line of sight' or the ability to see and view other traffic while behind the wheel. Most cars, SUVS and trucks are simply not looking out for two wheelers which places two wheelers in a precarious place.

Now, if there were more designated bike paths, we could all travel together peaceably.

To be honest I'm an alcoholic in recovery, LOLz, but back in the day when I was active in abuse I went for cheap and strong fat beer. Now i mostly drink coffee or water, or some cheap orange multi vitamine mix-up.

Yours?

The term "well lit" around here means you should not be even on the road.
