https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-a-supermoon-helped-free-the-giant-container-ship-from-the-suez-canal-11617040923?cx_testId=3&cx_testVariant=cx_5&cx_artPos=3?mod=WTRN#cxrecs_s

It seems they removed a lot of earth/sand from around the ship, and then there was a alignment of planets and moon to cause a 2' higher than normal tide. They then pulled it off with tugs. It has been pulled to a wide spot to be examined for damage.

Woo Hooo!

In some ways that ship could be fragile. Fuel millage is in feet per gallon and not many feet at that.

What has suprised me is demand for shipping during the virus situation has exploded. Possibly making the trade balance of payments situation worse than ever for north America. There is a substantial container shortage as a result.

Fragile....yeah, I was worried about the hooks they attached to being designed for towing at sea not dragging off the sand and tearing off.

The high tide was the key I suspect.

Probably high water was present when it got blown onto the shallow place so another incident of high water helped get it off.

I imagine they are dredging the canal now....actually I imagine they do it all the time....I believe they do in the Panama canal. But they'll have to step it up in the Suez after this.

Not sure about the Suez, but it costs over hundred grand for a naval ship to pass through the Panama canal. That got the money.
