Okay after removal of the cancer in the bladder the second time. I woke in the morning but did not urinate a few weeks later. A healing scab had come off and blocked the exit from the bladder I suspected. By ten that morning the discomfort was so bad off to the hospital for a catheter.

By the time I got to the hospital the pain was in waves. I told the nurse I had bladder work three weeks ago and I think the passage is obstructed. I could hardly stay still. In reply I got. I think you have kidney stones.

I said okay I have kidney stones but I really need a catheter bad. Well they contacted my uroligist.

The person said I have never put a catheter like this in before. It was the one with an air line in and a fluid input and return line. I told them to excuse the term but just screw in in. If not I will not be able to remain still enough for you to do it without major pain relief. As the bodies reactions to the pain were getting closer and closer together.

They kept me nine hours after and let me return home. The relief when that catheter got though the obstruction was unbelievable. My misteak of course was waiting too long before heading for the hospital.

I sound like a cry baby I know but you really do not want this type of discomfort. I too was well past the point of who put the catheter in.

I have a friend who went through a similar experience. He said the pain was excruciating.

Yea I vomited from the pain also but not while driving.
Went in for the pre-procedure ultrasound. Had to drink a qt of water and hold it in while the sonographer pushed on my kidneys and bladder with the transducer. Then the restroom was being cleaned, ran out into the lobby and the 2 restrooms were occupied. Ran back in and rushed the housekeeping person out so I could release the qt.

This was the advice my father got, his response?

“How much water can you drink? I switched to beer, and it worked, and didn’t hurt as much as I expected.”

My father, may he rest in peace, was kid of the Depression and a WW2 combat vet. He loved big Detroit iron and cheap beer served real cold.

Had the procedure today. Not toooo bad-lots of peeing blood and pain on the side (pain pills help) where the procedure was done but nothing outrageous. Took 5 hrs due to some issues with staffing. Back is sore from laying on a specific shaped table while the procedure was done and I was unconscious. Seems like it is going to be expensive with all the pre op and people involved. I did not think I needed it but wife is going in for surgery and I don't want the thing popping out at the wrong time.
Edit-peeing is painful also.

The after affects have been significant. Lots of peeing blood, painful and urgent urination.
I have pissed my pants like 10 times. I have about 10 seconds from the urge to peeing. I am questioning having it done but I know it was necessary.

Pampers for you? I remained leashed to twenty feet from a washroom for some time. A ten second warning is not bad if I remember as well. With one episode. Rapid improvement once it eventually started to improve.

Even if you just think you might need to urinate. You tend to move fast. Think of it as potty training.

Strange as well I remember. I did not lose control during sleep come to think of it.I have no ideal of why I was not aware of that at the time.

Reminds me of a Jeff Foxworthy routine. " How many beers can you drink without going to the bathroom? Depends." Same here with sleep-no problem. The surgery my wife needs (the reason I had the procedure) is this weekend in Eugene where it's going to be 108. Here it's going to be 65 to 70.

Glad to hear the improvement was rapid.
Was that from having the shock wave treatment?

No but you description is equal to the bladder neck muscle. Weakened temporarily by proceedures. It was hard for me to understand now why it did not remain a problem when sleeping.

In your case the brain control of that muscle may have been temporarily altered I suppose. I think I went through it to different degrees twice. All i remember really is it did take some time to start improving. That would obvious vary with a lot of cases.

Incontinance almost is how I would describe it. I of course am not a doctor.

Ten seconds was a long warning in my case initially. Several weeks come to mind before I really wanted to be far from a urinal or toilet. While away from the house.

It is just one of those things you go through in life and almost tend to forget.

We have a 3 hr drive to Eugene on Sat (new forecast 112deg) so may be pulling over often.
I think the reason for not needing to use the bathroom at night is I am still in a horizontal position not moving around.

Maybe. Just a guess that it is far more complicated than that. There is some form of huge brain connection to that urinary system I suspect. Unless the kidneys cease loading the bladder as fast during sleep. I doubt that or we would not urinate usually first thing in the morning. Yet we can go eight hours or more with constant sleep

I am not really a coarse person yet perhaps take humor a little too far some times.

Pull ups might be considered for that trip. Perhaps reducing fluid intake for some tine before leaving. Just in case you cannot make it to a washroom or urinate outside the vehicle.

Originally I semi suspected that the shake up your system got had somehow stressed the control circuit between your brain and bladder muscle for awhile. Remember it is not an involentary control system on that bladder exit muscle.

Currently you just have weak control while awake. There is some other way the communication for control improves during sleep when the consious mind is not involved. Again even then the muted signals will wake you up if the bladder feels too much pressure.

The nervous system took quite a hammering in that area during the proceedure remember. It is still connected or you would have no control at all. It will restore itself to full two way communication with time.

This may be normal with your proceedure. A lot of members like myself are getting up there now. To the age even more will get to know uroligists better. I have always though they earn their money.

Have a good trip. If you were traveling alone. A hose and a container like fighter pilots have. Could be one option.
