Interior trim, Chevy Mk3 conversion van
 

I gather these were done by a 3rd party. I found one online that looks virtually identical to mine, paint, windows, and interior trim, not the first time, so I guess they weren't uncommon.

I want to rewire the larger rear section to be dependent on an isolated battery bank, which of course discharges independently of the main battery.

Like so many aspects of interior trim, there's a trick to removing it, you need to know where and how to apply pressure. Yesterday I popped into an upholstery shop on El Camino, you can drive right alongside the main door. I asked a guy about paying him to remove and install it, maybe tweak bits of it - some of it is sagging funny. He said 'it's not hard, why not just do it yourself' adding that their rate is $140 an hour (ulp). He didn't offer up a tutorial, I'd almost pay that rate for a 20 minute tutorial. Just getting the ceiling trim off would probably be good enough, I want to wire the overhead lights and fan to the cabin batteries, make this thing into a legit camper.

I could fish the wires downward behind the thin plywood walls I think. Each side has a small feature with a switched light and a cigarette lighter port, neither works at present, could be handy for cell phone charging and attaching an inverter.

Anybody done it?

And here I thought I had actual help, informed advice and all that.

This is actually a pretty good truck. I get offers all the time from guys wanting a worthy restoration project. Has a couple of dings, could use a paint job. I just did another Rustoleum spray can roof protection. Sun, destroyer of all things, well, lifegiver as well.

I like Chevy vans and back around '06 my long time '76 van with a 6 banger was looking at that big bone yard in the sky. I went shopping, this was the 4th one I looked at and it stood out from the crowd. Smooth, powerful, cruise control even worked. The 5.0 is strong, you'd almost think it's a 350. Plus it had high end Michelins all around, spare as well, all with much life left on them. I could tell these were people who had spent money on maintenance.

Second thought - no pics. Pearls before swine and all of that. I too am a German car snob but some offerings of Detroit ahrn are acceptable, even worthy in my world. You'd be surprised at the braking and handling of the last gen Ford Crown Vics. Not by accident did cops like them.
