Kinsa Smart Thermometer, and other thermometers
I don't have a thermometer of any sort. I've been hearing about the instant nationwide temperature polling that these things provide. A bit odd, a bit big brotherish, OTOH could be one hell of a public health tool.
I'm seeing two types available 'new, open box' on eBay. Current top bids of around $40 for what I think is the older type: https://www.ebay.com/p/691239545 For the newer type (I think), new in box, some bids at about $50 now - the buy it now price of the same item, new-unopened, up to $100. So my guess is the eSnipe bids (what I'm going to do) would go up to as much as 80 or 90. I mean why bid for a full 100 if you can get one at that 'buy it now' price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kinsa-QuickCare-Smart-Digital-Thermometer-Brand-New-in-Box/293523706811?hash=item44576053bb:g:XCoAAOSwkbZedhtI Here's a new 'buy it now' at $96: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Kinsa-QuickCare-Smart-Digital-Thermometer-Temperature-SAME-DAY-SHIPPING/153876962467?hash=item23d3c81ca3:g:iLgAAOSwTXVee7PG Anybody own one? Then there are simpler varities: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086DKDHJ3/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?keywords=mercury+oral+thermometer&qid=1585231108&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQU5PVERYWlUyVE9DJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTg1NzYxSlhDWVlRVTJRMkRaJmVuY3J 5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5MjAwMTVVVlNVNElZS0VFNlImd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3R Mb2dDbGljaz10cnVl Not sure if the old style mercury type is still used much.

I have a simple alcohol filled one that I bought from Wal-Mart for under $5. Know why? Because the stupid battery was ALWAYS dead when I needed the battery powered one. Guaranteed. Sure it takes 2-3 minutes to get a reading, but it's never wrong and will still be working 100+ years from now, long after the batteries have died and the manufacturer stopped supporting the fancy smartphone app for that $50-100 digital thermometer (which sell for $5-10 at CVS without all the "app" crap).

Those prices are insane. I used to use one but the batteries didn't last very long. I decided to get one of these.
https://www.target.com/p/exergen-temporal-artery-thermometer/-/A-13009184 The best part is it doesn't go in any body openings... swipe the forehead and that's it. One 9v lasted about 3 years. |

Great advice. I'd rather not be dropping $100 bills casually on gee-gaw items these days.

As I have previously mentioned I have been experiencing intermittent fever for a while now. I have an old fashioned oral merc unit. I have also a cooking probe. So for grins I tried them both at the same time and the digital readout on the probe was exactly the number in the glass. to the tenth decimal.
So if you can test calibration, those are cheap and easy. Here is an image similar to mine: |

I use an infrared automotive thermometer on the forehead. No problem except you have to remember to put the laser on low intensity before you shine it on the head, or you'll burn a hole in the sick person....

Nah. That's celcius. I'm Fahrenheit.

I'll be damned. I figured there'd be a toggle setting, C or F. But upon reading the ad closely no reference to Fahrenheit appeared anywhere. Oh well, I'll make a quickie reference conversion chart.

A few weeks ago I bought an infrared thermometer to measure my child's body temperature, this is the item https://www.gsi.id/id/ebro/infrared-thermometers/
Maybe you can find the brand at the nearest pharmacy because the price is quite affordable and accurate. |

C times 2, subtract 10%, adjust for freezing. 100*2=200 minus 10% = 180. 180+32=212. For every 5 degrees of C, there are 9 degrees of F, but one scale of freeze to boil is 0-100, while the other is 32-212. Which makes direct math in the head hard, so use the formula
