It also looks large relative to the moon I expect because it is so much closer to the Earth it offers a size illusion.

Damn, looking at that makes me consider what a rough piece of real estate the moon truly is. It’s not a mystery to me why we haven’t gone back. There’s nothing there that anybody wants. The surface is covered with the worst kind of dust to get in your lungs or any kind of machinery. The astronauts would bring it on their suits into their module and end up inhaling some of it. Horrible fact is, most planets and other celestial bodies are a lot like that. Dead rocks.

I was curious, I checked the figures, the space station is an average of 254 miles from earth. The moon - 238,900 miles.

So I’m guessing that the magnification needed to see the space station from earth led to a really enlarged view of the moon as well.

I wonder if future missions will involve air compressors to clean up with before reentering the capsule, or what ever structures we eventually put in those places. Used to do that after leaving the workshop at the end of the day. Get all that saw dust off.

That would make sense, but I understand the dust also did a number on rubber seals. Given that you’re going to have to keep high pressure air inside the living quarters, if the seals are getting beat up, watch like out

I read that the dust is so gnarly because there’s never been any water to roll it around and work off the sharp edges. I guess it comes from gazillions of meteoroid impacts of all sizes.
