? WHY ?

I know it's Summer when the tiny black ants begin showing up in my kitchen sink looking for water but, after nearly 40 years in the same house they've suddenly began crawling all over my razor ~ what's the deal ? .

I thought maybe they liked the soap residue even though I always run it under the faucet after shaving but last night I cleaned it spotless then moved it to another storage place and they're back again .

What gives ? .

They're high tech ants trying to be on the cutting edge....

Seriously I've not a clue why, interesting.

If I was an ant I'd want to live in Southern Ca too:). Not necessarily on your razor though vw. Something on it is attracting them.

If you are into ant killing, I’d recommend trying the Terro Liquid Ant Bait killing machines.

They frequently go for it in a big way, almost always, and it’s a slow acting poison. They take it back and feed it to the queen and then two or three days later they all exit this mortal coil.

I dump gasoline along the foundation when I see them coming around. Keeps them looking other places. That and about 10 bags of home defense granules in the ground

I'd use the lawn granules around your house, especially where you suspect they are coming in. I have noticed them using unique travel ways, Like a garden hose. It is a superhighway through the jungle of lawn.

When we lived in Ca we were in a pine forest and constantly dealing with carpenter ants. They would feed on the sap in the trees and nest in the house-in the ceiling mostly. Never saw a single ant inside the house but there was sawdust coming down from the plank ceiling in places. I would follow the trails into the forest and spray along the way-sometimes hundreds of feet and up into the tree as far as I could reach. We had hundreds of tall trees close enough to the house so it was quite a effort to attempt to control them. They were never attracted to any kind of commercial ant bait. We had ants inside the house once here and I used the Terro ant bait and never had them again in the 3 years we have been here.

Ants

Thanx for all the replies ! .

Because of so many neighbor's pets and my dogs in my fenced back yard, I cannot dose the ground all around my foundation .

I've tried this liquid and bait before, along with every single brand I could find and they don't eat it .

I agree there's something about my razor they like but what ? .

I've been here since 1988 and this is the first time they've ever noticed my razor .

Something natural.. mix boric acid with peanut butter and a lil honey. Honey attracts the ants, peanut butter makes it a paste and boric acid melts them slowly as soon as they eat it and take it to the colony

There are two things ants cannot live without: Salt and water. If your razor has either on it they will come after it if they can find no other source.

I doubt it is the salt but some areas have more salt in the water than others. I go through a lot of salt in my water softener, so if you have one of those there may be enough to attract them.

If so you might try cleaning you razor with a dip in a glass of distilled water and then drying most of it off.

This might be worth doing just to see if it works.

Thanx guys ! .

Every year when the heat rises I get ants coming in and making a bee line to the sink drains for water .

This year they're also on the toilet .

I love learning new things here .

I had an unusual encounter with carpenter ants a few years ago. I was at my mothers place in Oregon at the time, we were sorting through some family items, and we opened a shoebox that had a bunch in the bottom under some paper that they had apparently been chewing on.

I’ve rarely encountered carpenter ants in my day, my mother was pretty sure that’s what they were, I a web search, sure seemed like that’s what they were.

It was hot day, I took the box out on the driveway to see if anything in it was worth saving. I dumped the contents out and quickly realized I had delivered a death sentence on the ants. They died in the hot sun really quickly. Hadn’t been my intention, I didn’t really expect it. Oh well.
