Rain event Ca
Looked at the forecast for Nevada City Ca where we used to live. 7" precip on Sunday. 9" over 3 days. Falling on burned, bare hillsides. Hopefully there will be a lot of soakage not runoff.

Ugh, I just learned about this in biology last semester. Dry soil doesn't soak up water as fast as damp soil, and no vegetation means there's nothing to hold the water in place long enough for it to be absorbed. We've been dealing with the same thing in Colorado. I can't even remember the number of times the interstate has been shut down in this last year due to mudslides where the wildfires were. It's not a good prognosis. :(

It's already been raining there off and on for a few days-hopefully enough to open up the soil. Now it's up to over 7.5" just Tomorrow.

It was pretty wet on Sunday in the bay area. Wettest I’ve seen in a while.

There's just no pleasing you guys. First you are complaining the place is burning up and then once Ma Nature gets around to putting the fires out you're unhappy about that!
Yeah, I watched the ball game Sunday evening. Didn't look like those boys were having too much fun. |
Got to San Diego today and it was raining. Been a long time since that happened here. It's actually kind of chilly as well.
|
Put an end to the fire season. Also brought Lake Tahoe up to it's natural rim.

I was pretty wet and cold by the end of the day Sunday, thank God 24 Hour Fitness is up and running. I popped in for alternate hot tub/Jacuzzi action and swimming laps. Life is good. |
I love the rain. It started raining here a month ago. Did not get much from this system-it went south of Oregon but lots of wind.

California Rains
Are the fires in fact out now ? .
How much did this rain help Lake Shasta ? . I was in Death Valley where the edge of this storm system caused whiteout conditions due to blowing sugar sand ~ I was pooting along Ca. S.R. 190 at 10 MPH or so across the Panamint Valley following the fog line until I couldn't see the hood of the car anymore, then by feel alone I pulled completely off the road and stopped for close to an hour before I could see again . A friend of mine on his Moto stopped in the lane and was hit by a car going 35 MPH , he's beat up but okay thanx to all the gear he wears . Lucky he wasn't killed or crippled like me . I too hate the rain having grown up in it but we certainly do need it . |
Not sure about Shasta but I suspect most of the rain went south. Your story reminds me of commuting from N ca to Barstow on 99 in the winter. It would be so foggy one could not find their way back onto the hiway if you got off. 101 to San Luis was almost as bad.

Wet Weather
Thanx, I'd heard this storm came ashore near San Fransisco and turned South .
I'm still wondering about those forest fires, the news dropped all coverage . |
I think the fire season is pretty much over, at least in N ca.

Fires Out
Thanx Tony ! .
Folks here don't seem to grasp we're living in a Desert ~ you have to be careful and fires are always ready to ruin your day . We'll never be out of drought, why they don't make desalination plants I'll never know ~ we're right by the PACIFIC OCEAN and could easily make the entire Desert bloom and reduce perhaps the rising sea levels . Long ago before so many people lived here the Desert in the Antelope Valley was farm land, the old farms are still there but the water table dropped so far they had to stop for lack of water . |
I think it takes a lot of energy to desalinate water especially on a scale that would make a difference. Kind of a conundrum. I remember years ago there was a idea to tow iceburgs down and melt them for water.
