Why is high tech so GDed weird half the time?
 

A client sent me $200 via Apple Pay. He is the only client who uses it. Seems like every time I have to jump through different hoops to transfer it to my bank.

I thought I had it down but today is the worst ever. I went to wallet, opened Apple Pay, right there it is: $200. I tapped everything in sight, nothing facilitated the movement of money.

I searched the web: “How do you transfer money from Apple Pay to your bank account.” They said go to wallet, open Apple Pay and tap move. I looked again, I would be tapping move like a mad mofo if there was “move” anywhere to be seen. They’re trying to sell me more apps, but no move button.

This shouldn’t be that hard.

I just had a guy do some work for me; after he completed the work he presented the invoice. I then whipped out some cash and physically handed it to him.

no muss, no fuss.

I use ZELL or my credit union to send money. My wife uses VINMO. Never had any issues but we do not use them too much. I pay for everything else with credit cards. Every now and then I use a check for contractors who do not accept credit cards. The only thing I use cash for is to by a lotto ticket every now and then.

Well uhh, yes, some of my clients insist on paying cash. Others do not. I’m not going to give them a hard time about how they pay me, as long as they pay me. I did finally figure it out, and I’m not even sure how I did it.

Those two work a lot better for me. This is the only guy who uses Apple Pay.

I constantly hear horror stories about electronic bill pay; apple pay, paypal, etc etc. Now, I will say this about cash, if you pay someone in cash be sure and get a receipt or invoice that is marked "paid".

I stopped taking cash or checks from my tenants. When I show the place and in the contract, I specify that they need to do electronic payments via a web site I use for all my rental needs. They link it to their account and set up the payments. They are told when the deposit will be made and I receive a notification. I have proof when the deposits were made. I do not mind of its a few days late so long as I get it. Only time I held it against a tenant is when they screwed me over and I charged them every late fee in the small claims. Had all the proof from the banks. No question that they were late.

I got tired of the excuses....I got off work late....I lost my check book....No excuses now.

You do not constantly hear horror stories. Last I read, there are over 700b electronic payments done every year and the numbers keep going up. I have been banking electronically for close to 30 yrs now. I have yet to have an issue with it. Never a lost payment. Never a missed payment. Nothing.

I have an odd relationship with one of my best clients. I have never met him face-to-face. He lives in San Diego.

About 4 or 5 years ago I did some work on a house he owned in the Oakland hills. Worked out pretty well, he paid me with Venmo.

Three years ago he contacted me about an Airbnb house he was managing in Palo Alto. It was closer to where I lived. When I first saw it I had a feeling there might be a lot of work there for me, I was right.

It’s an older house, maybe 80 years old, you can tell by the old, old framing style and material you can see in the basement and attic. Not a grand old palace, but not bad either, and a really great neighborhood, right next to Stanford, incredibly quiet at night. But not well maintained for a long time. Numerous problems.

I’ve spoken to him on the phone maybe three times, all the rest of the time it’s text. Payment is always Venmo. Quick and easy.

Welcome to the future. For some it'll be pretty smoothe sailing, most of the time. Until it isn't. Then it'll be a cluster ****. I'd say a lot of the reason you are having an issue is the "Apple" in "Apple pay". I avoid the company like the plague.

I’ve used Apple computers, never owned one I’ve heard the rave reviews, I don’t know what to make of it.

I do know that I’m generally happy with the iPhone, though there are some weird tics that you sure think could be fixed easily enough.

I live in a sheltered world. When I do work for someone they sometimes offer to pay me in barter, like would I take a sightly used Porsche?

I tell them nope. They have the number of my agent. They pay that bloodsucker and the 10 percent pays me. I don't know how they do it. I just know I get a notice to check my bank account.

I don't well understand all the high tech so I try to pay by check or credit card, those options may well be going away ere long .

FWIW, I hear lots of horror stories about losing $ via bitcoin and others, I'll never trust any of them .
