Best way to ship an engine block

The closest decent machine shop is about 5 hrs away in Portland, Or. Rather than drive back and forth at least 2 times I am considering shipping the block to the machine shop. I have never shipped something like this but I'm sure many here have. Best and least expensive method? I would say maybe 150lbs.

Build a crate around it that you can pick up with a forklift.

Completely drain every fluid, and build a crate around it. Anchor it inside the crate. Photo it before closing the crate, remove everything the machine shop does not need to prevent loss, insure it if it's rare.

Ask your machinist the same question posted. They may have a commercial account for shipping that can save a lot.

I used engineshipping.com years ago and was completely satisfied.

Good luck!!!

It's a bare block-no fluids. I thought of calling the machine shop-I'm sure they have engines/parts shipped all the time. I will call them tomorrow.

Honing the cylinders will be part of what I have done along with resurfacing the decks so all machined surfaces will be refreshed. This is for my "Iron Block 5.6" engine project. Trying to keep making progress on it.

Thanks-my '71 Toyota Hilux pickup had a used Japanese engine when the original threw a rod. Put at least 100k on it before the transmission when out and I stopped driving it.
