Wife got hit last night at mid night. She will be okay, deep tissue trauma but other wise intact. She is sore AF and royally pissed off.
Pretty sure it was stolen truck. He lost the front left wheel but still managed to drive a black and was picked up by someone else. Witness got a plate number of the get away car. Owner of the truck claimed it was stolen. So we will probably get hosed by the insurance. Oh well.

Bent rear axle, rear doors will not close so frame damage. Both C-pillars are creased. Head restraint blew like it was supposed to. Seat belt tensioner went off (wont retract). Minor front damage and I guess that is why the air bags did not deploy. She hit the car in front of her and from the dash cam I was expecting more damage. Also looked like the driver seat got tweaked a bit but its hard to tell.

Car did what it was supposed to do. It sacrificed it's life to save Ms Mash. So, good job. Not thrilled about the rat phking im going to get from insurance or the second rat phking I expect to get from having to buy a new car, especially in this market but I have little control over it so I'll do the best I can. I will probably contact a lawyer to see if it is even worth perusing but if the car was stolen and the person who stole it is uninsured (would being insured even cover a stolen vehicle?) there is nothing in it for the lawyer. Odds are someone who steals a vehicle is poor to begin with so you cant get blood out of a rock.

Started looking for a replacement car.....geez the prices are high.

Does anyone know how to post pics from Google Photo on here. The link it gave be did not work. I had to post these to FB and then link it from there to here.

One other thing I do not understand is that the back window ended up nearly intact on the ground by the drivers door. It literally popped out. I guess that is by design but I do not know.

Sorry t hear this. Why wouldn't insurance cover this?

davidmash 07-24-2022 08:45 PM

Insurance will cover it, just a mater of who's. I am not sure, in the case of a stolen car, who's insurance covers it.

INSIDIOUS 07-24-2022 10:29 PM

Typically your insurance takes care of you and then goes after the other guy & his insurance. None of that prevents you from going after him for things not covered or in excess of limits. But ... that blood stone thing ....

Thankfully Mrs. M. Is (relatively) OK. The car can be replaced, albeit it’s more expensive and inconvenient than it used to be. I expect that is totaled, but these days with values so high they are fixing cars that used to be economic write offs.

Daym that sucks. Happens all the time here. Why can’t someone just steal a truck and still drive like a normal person

Totally agree, glad she is ok. It will be totaled for sure. About 6 months ago my wife got into a parking lot fender bender in her 3 month old Highlander. Damage looked minor to me but because the airbag deployed (front and side) they totaled the entire car. I couldn't believe it - 3 months old, almost $50K car, was totaled in a sub 20 MPH accident.

That'll Buff Right Out !

Glad to hear S.W.M.B.O. is okay but be aware that soft tissue damage can be very slow to show it's true damage .

Yes. Hospital told her days 2 and 3 would be worse. Today is day 3 and she feels miserable.

On the plus side, State Farm gave me more than I though they would for the car. $18k for a 2014 C250 with 69k miles. Dealer had '14 C300 4matic same options 27k miles for $23k so $18 for ours seems pretty fair.

Working It Out

Sounds good to me .

I wonder if I should have my truck inspected and valued (brain fart, I can't remember the correct word for this) as it's 20 years old yet close to pristine and I'd have the devil of a time replacing it.....

davidmash 07-26-2022 07:27 PM

One thing I did learn is to have pics of your car. Ours was in very good to excellent shape. When I had the AC compressor replaced, they happen to take pics of the car to protect them. MB happen to keep the pics and sent them to me so I could prove condition before the accident. That along with the receipt gave me a bit of a bump in value. Getting back $18k for a 8 yr old car is not to bad given current values.

Anyway, if you have a good condition car, take a few pics to prove condition.

I'd consider using an agreed value policy such as Hagerty designed for collector cars but might do it for your lovely little red truck.

Damn

Here I am again and still cannot remember the correct word .

Once I had an old (1968) VW Typ II camper (a 'Sundial IIRC) that was rear ended by a crack head when parked outside my house .

It was a nice truck and all but in 1997 it was just another old VW Van, I'd replaced the engine, tranny, tires and lots of fiddly things so I could and did drive it anywhere, I used the receipts to force the insurance company to pay me what I felt it was worth .

They didn't bother totaling it so in spite of the damage I was able to sell it for $800 to the first guy who came looking .

I'm sure there are local places that will inspect and give me an honest value for my cute little red trucklet, every where I go in ti someone wants to buy it .

I imagine at this point my 240D is worth doing this too .

God knows I love this old beast .

Well, I pulled the trigger on a 2019 E450. It has 19k on it, polar white over an off white interior. Pulls like a freight train and drives really smooth. The electronics are a bit intimidating in terms of reliability so I think nI am going to get an extended warranty on it. Between the AWD and all the sensors, computers and screens on it... something is bound to go toes up.

I have had it for a day and I must say, it does put a smile on my face when I drive it.
