I read an article a while back on the people who work these departments. They use mirrors to see if it means something backwards, dictionaries....Things slid through every now and then but these folks seem to be pretty good at their jobs.

Vanity Plates
Thanx for this ! .
I find some of the rejections to be over the top . Back when vanity plates were new, a fellow in Hollywood got 9 INCH . Someone complained and the Ca. DMV revoked it .

For the amount of money they charge for a personalized plate you should be able to use whatever you wanted.

The issue there is : many will want deliberately rude or offensive plates..... I agree about the DMV co$t$ here in Ca., they're really high . I know more than a few folks who have daily Ca. drivers that are registered out of state ~ the DMV and CHP both really frown on that, during the covid mess that stopped enforcing it but in the past every time they've run a few months of enforcement in a select area they make huge $, not just what wasn't paid before but massive profits so be very wary of driving and trying to sneak .
