Put the top down Mags, Paw Paw wants the wind to blow through his head

I don't know if anyone on here watched the Alex Murdaugh saga play out but be watching for the book and movie. Google it if you are not familiar.

In this crazy word we live in I probably missed a heckuva opportunity today. I went to an auction between here and Savannah where they were auctioning off the Alex Murdaugh estate items. One of the items there was an 02 SLK320 with 84k miles. Interior and exterior looked good. The ac did not blow cold nor did the top work. Anyway, it sold for $7200. I suspect I could have picked it up, fixed what did not work and ebay'd it and made a little green.

I went down to buy a pie safe from the estate but quit bidding at $250. Cost of all the items were through the roof. A mounted set of long horn cow horns from the estate sold for $11k. Word was that they were on the Caddy driven by Boss Hog in the movie Smokie and the Bandit.

So the fella that purchased the 1200 acres from my sister (long story where some bad juju went on) purchased the couch where Alex took a nap. The furniture was manufactured by Hancock and Moore and seemed to be high quality funiture. I've known this guy all my life and now he owns hunting property adjacent to my property (550 acres).

He would have done PT Barnum well and that is a compliment if you are in that business. The money he spent on the furniture was some of the best advertising money he has probably ever spent.

I'm vaguely familiar with the Murdaugh story, my wife was watching a documentary on one of the cable channels a couple of weeks ago and I caught about 15 minutes of the story.

Always a little leery of accepting the version of the truth presented on cable TV drama/crime shows but my initial impression is that he was one sick/evil example of a human being. Being born to privilege is certainly a huge advantage in life but I was surprised at his ability to screw people over for years and years and constantly get away with things.

I don't understand the allure of buying things associated with people like this, for me the items in the sale would have to sell at a huge discount to market value before I'd be willing to enter the bidding. And maybe not even then.

To each his own I guess?

Being retired the wife and I watched every bit of the trial on court tv. The guy that purchased the furniture has 8000 acres of hunting land set up and has just built a 1.5 million dollar lodge he is trying to furnish. He built out three large grain bins to have six bedrooms and each bed room has it's own bath. He told me the next day that he has already received calls wanting to use the furniture for some shows. He said Lee Greenwood was down here the other day. I've heard of him. Seems there are some NFL players and that type that are backing him with his endeaver.

The court tv interview was worth (advertising his hunting preserve) more than the $36k he spent on the brown couches, recliners and foot rest with rug.
