there are three traffic courts in Atlanta, Georgia that generate $10,000 per hour in traffic fines. Remember, it's not the money......

You make some good points here. I am all for an overhaul of the traffic citation system that places less emphasis on financially-based penalties, and more emphasis on punishment by the assessment of drivers-license points, which can result in the loss of driving privileges, and by incarceration.

Better solutions, no?

there are several underlying problems that 98% of the public AND government officials, i.e. prosecutors, police, judges etc fail to really understand regarding so-called "licenses" "commercial travel" "passengers" "passenger vehicles" "motorist", etc etc.

BTW, there are many people with suspended/revoked/cancelled driver's licenses who get behind the wheel every day. The police will catch up with some of them and some of them do it FOR YEARS AND YEARS. Each and every day of the week, I personally witness people who are packing a "driver's license" operate their cars/SUVS/trucks in a totally unsafe manner. They run red lights, stop signs, speed like demons, cut you off in traffic, etc etc.

Remember, a 1 inch by 2 inch piece of plastic doesn't mean squat.

I've always said that a law is defective if it keeps getting broken...

you got that right. Over many years, the so-called "law" has morphed into a money making machine for the states, cities and the courts. The legislatures have monetized many laws, statutes, codes, ordinances, regulations, etc. $300 traffic citation for a busted tail light type of thing......

If you have a desire to more fully understand the concept of turning the "law" into a STRAIGHT MONEY MAKING machine, READ THIS:

https://www.amazon.com/Law-Frederic-Bastiat-2013-09-21/dp/B01K0TYZZG/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2JZYDNNT4O5NG&keywords=The+law+bastiat&qid=1691711689&sprefix=the+law+bastiat%2Caps% 2C147&sr=8-9

after you read the book, you will come to understand why those three traffic courts generationg $10,000 hourly in Atlanta, Georgia exist.....right after you pay your $300 for a busted tail light out traffic ticket, the clerk of the court plays THIS:

I was once hauling a trailer with no night time lights that worked. The turn signals did.

When it started to get dark I pulled into a Walmart, bought some $1 flashlights, dug some soft drink cans out of the trash, and used some tape to mount the cans as reflectors and the flashlights as running lights.

They lasted until I got to where I was going.

I even stopped for gas in a small town and a cop pulled in to check it out. He had been following me and wanted to see what I had rigged up. I asked him to check on wagon lights being necessary and sure enough, my set up was as legal as hanging a lantern off the back of your wagon.

He was not upset. To him this was a great story to tell at roll call.

99% of the time, when people go to traffic court, they plead out then pay the fine to the clerk of the court. Rarely do they sit in the hallway for a few hours watching how many $$$$$$ is paid to the clerk.

Once upon a time, I got a B.S. ticket and went to court to fight it. I took a friend who sat in the hallway while I went into the courtroom to slug it out with the prosecutor and the judge. By noon, my friend had counted $7,000 in traffic fines. This jerkwater town had all but two traffic lights....it was obvious this was how they made their budget.

Next time I rolled through that particular part of the country, I counted ten cops within a three mile stretch of highway just looking to get people for any reason they could. Remember, traffic court is really a BANK.
