Dodge series hybrid - what took so long?

Wonder what took so long. Only thing that would make it better would be if it had the engine from the 05/06 CDI in it.

series hybrid

With no direct connection between the engine and the transmission, why do you need the torque from a 300-horsepower V-6 engine to run a generator? Why not use a small four-cylinder engine for this purpose?

PC I think they are referring to the torque available at the electric motors, not the gasoline engine.

never heard of it.

I saw a test of one on u tube which had a hemi plus the big electric motor which mounts like a large alternator with a big toothed belt.

What took so long? Easy, there was no demand.

Back in the 60s I was talking to a rep from a maker of over the road diesels. He was telling me they had engines that would develop more power and got far better MPG than what they were currently selling.

I asked him why they were keeping them on the shelf?

Because until the other companies started selling such a thing then why should they? His reasoning was if you are still catching fish then why change the bait?
